There are two main reasons for my liking of the blues format: it's easy to work with, and one can get away with such things as calling Britney Spears "babe."
Late at night, when I'm preparing myself for the next day, my mind tends to wander. One night, I happened to be thinking about how darn sick I was of hearing, nonstop, about Britney. This song pretty much wrote itself as my mind put words together that night and combined them with the music that I had just been listening to and therefore had stuck in my mind, which was that of the first Led albumparticularly the cut "I Can't Quit You Baby." The song probably would have had more of a "How Many More Times" influence, but the CD messed up at the beginning of that song, thus preventing me from hearing it and getting that in my head. I guess that changed the course of things remarkably. Anyway, after a few minor changes, I finally called it a song and posted it here. Here, then, are the words my mind composed that fateful night.
Oh, Britney
What's the whole deal with you?
Oh, Britney
I said, what's the whole deal wit' you? [someone in the background: "Gesundheit!" Me: "Thanks..."]
You've been pollutin' our culture, babe
But soon, those days will be through.
[spoken]You're not gettin' any younger, you know.
Well, your voice is terrible [Talk about understatement!]
I can't stand it at all
[optional line, spoken]I know it's computerized, now, babe
Said your voice is awful
I can't stand it at all
How it and the words from it
Do tend to largely appall.
Interlude
Y'know, it's really quite amazing
You don't embarrass yourself.
Said it's really quite amazing
How you don't embarrass yourself.
It's me you're embarrassing
I think I'll listen to somebody else.
Interlude
You'd better watch your step, now
It's gonna catch up to you (whatever that means)
Yeah, you better watch your step, girl
It's bound to catch up to you
Your old age looming ahead, now,
Will stop you from doin' the things you do.
Hoo yeah, Britney, baby
What's the whole deal with you?
Oh, Britney, now, honey
What IS the deal with you?
You've been screwin' up our culture, now
But soon, those days'll be through.
