This, as the title suggests, is a generic blues-style song. The lyrics are mostly silly. I feel it fair, however, to point out that that one line in the first verse is simply mocking society today. This song is supposed to be seen from a common person's perspective, rather than mine. I am not a common person.
Well, my girlfriend broke up with me
Yesterday
That's the thirty-fifth break-up I've been through
Since last May
And now it's October
And I got no one to use
Throughout the course of this song, it'll become clear to you
That I've got the generic blues.
...Or the blues in general, if you prefer.
Well, I don't seem to be doing
Very well in school
Everybody thinks that I'm
A gosh darn fool
And perhaps they're right...
Just a fool without any clues
Somehow, I can't help but feel
That I've got the generic blues.
Well, I lost all my money in the
Stock market, babe
Twenty-five grand, now
All in one day
It's got me down
Looking down at my shoes
I really do think that I have
The generic blues.
[Rockin' interlude goes here]
Well, I've run out of ice cream
Don't you know
That mint chocolate chip that sets my
Heart aglow
And now it's gone
LORD KNOWS I've paid some dues
It's truly a pity, the fact
That I've got the generic blues.
[Another rockin' interlude]
My [expletive of the performer's choice] modem
Won't let me connect
Sometimes I just feel like smashing it
Beat it all to heck
That worthless heap
Insert something that rhymes with "blues" here
Don't you know that I've got
The generic blues.
Generic blues
Generic blues
Blues in general
Generic blues
Generic blues [repeat this line four times]
Yessir, I've come down with
The generic blues.
