Flint Hill beat Potomac 78-63 in the Finals of the 2009 MAC Basketball Tournament. While scoring was a struggle at times for both teams in their semi-final match ups, it wasn't a problem in the finals. Potomac shot 48% from the field and 100% from the free throw line. However, Flint Hill shot 63% from the field and 94% from the line to win the title for the second straight year.

In the first quarter, Potomac broke out to an early lead with Danny Ricchetti feeding Brian Freeman to start things off, and then following it up with his own reverse lay up. Cullen Hamilton added a 3-point play and a 3-point shot to help Potomac stay with the Huskies shot for shot and an 18-18 tie at the end of one period.

Potomac had a hard time keeping up in the second quarter, after PJ Miller went down and out with a sprained ankle. Hamilton added five points, including his second 3-pointer, but the Panthers fell behind by nine points 38-29 at the half.

Potomac tried everything they could to keep up in the third quarter offensively, but couldn't stop Flint Hill. Hamilton hit two more 3-pointers. Miller returned with his ankle wrappped and scored five points, including a 3-pointer. Freeman had a block and hit all four of his shots for 8 points. The main problem was the turnovers. Potomac gave the ball up 7 times during the quarter. It was remarkable that with all the turnovers, Potomac was still able to hold Flint Hill from pulling away. However, what they really needed was to cut into the lead, but were unable to do so. After three periods Flint Hill led by 10 points 48-38.

Potomac was able to get the lead down to six points early in the fourth quarter with baskets by Freeman, Hamilton, Miller, and a 3-pointer by Enrique Cu-Unjieng. The remainder of the game Flint Hill made everything. Kevin Whittaker came off the bench and hit all five of his shots, and the Huskies went 8 for 8 from the line to extent their lead to 15 points and win 78-63.

Potomac was led by Freeman with 22 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Hamilton with 19 points, and Miller with 17 points and 7 assists.

The Panthers will play next in the Sleepy Thompson Tournament at St Stephen's Thursday February 26th at 3pm against Episcopal.
