Alice on Opium:

And so down, down her body did fall
like Alice in the rabbit hole.
Cold as fire and hot as ice
she was within her perfect hell.
Ironic as it seems,
even satire has its place.
A cigarette hung from her lips
as a noose would in the gallows.
And so down, down her heart did sink
like broken ships upon the waves.
Filled with pain and lusty pleasure
she was within her nightmare-dream.
Perversion stained her very soul
for a chance to show its face.
A filthy coin lay in her hand
as a corpse would in the ground.
And so down, down her tears did run
like rabbits flee from tigers.
Dark as the sun and pale as the night
she was within her limitless cage.
Rushing from their fate
never changed the final case.
Her lips were painted deep, deep red
as whores would do in gutters.
And so down, down the path she walked
like those who choose the road well-tread.
Blameless as children and evil as demons
she was within her molded mind.
The psyche tends to have a need
for a customary race.
An opiate played on her brain
as kings would do in chess.
And so down, down her body did fall
like Alice in the rabbit hole.
Cold as fire and hot as ice
she was within her perfect hell.
Ironic as it seems,
even satire has its place.
