Daniel 10-12 Detail Daniel 10-12 Detail

After the 70 "weeks" prophecy, Daniel receives a subsequent prophecy which I personally believe may possibly give great detail about end-time events in the Middle East. Some say Daniel 10-12 refers entirely to events which transpired in the three centuries before Christ, but note that Daniel 10:14 says the vision is also for "the latter days."

The vision probably begins in ancient times, with Daniel 11:2 referring to Xerxes, a ruler of the Persian empire, Daniel 11:3 to Alexander the Great, a ruler of the Greek empire, Daniel 11:4 to Alexander's successors, and Daniel 11:5 to Ptolemy, a ruler of Egypt, but I believe Daniel 11:6 may refer to when Egypt and Syria "in the end of years joined" into the United Arab Republic. In Daniel 11:6, the Hebrew word for daughter is "bath," which I believe refers to the Baath Party, an Arab political party which seeks to unite all the Arab nations under a single government, which currently rules in Syria, and which ruled in Iraq until the defeat of Saddam Hussein (the three stars on the Iraqi flag represent the hoped-for Baathist union of Iraq, Syria, and Egypt into a single Arab republic). But as Daniel 11:6 indicates, the Baathist United Arab Republic didn't last (it was dissolved after 1,335 days), and Egypt and Syria became distinct nations once again.

I believe Daniel 11:7 may refer to the Sinai War when Egypt invaded Israel, which is more northward than Egypt, and Daniel 11:8-9 may refer to modern Egypt and the U.S., Israel's protector, becoming allied after the Sinai war, and Egypt's beginning to obtain immense foreign aid from the U.S. based upon Egypt's promise not to invade Israel again.

I believe Daniel 11:10 may refer to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, and Daniel 11:11-12 may refer to the defeat of Iraq by the U.S. (which has hegemony over Egypt) in the Gulf Wars, which defeat may in the end not really strengthen the U.S.' position in the Middle East even though it "cast down many ten thousands" of Iraqi forces, for an Iraqi democracy may ultimately elect a strong leader opposed to the U.S.

Daniel 11:13 may prophesy a Mid-East war which has not yet happened, and Daniel 11:14 may prophesy a different world reaction to this war than to the first Gulf War, so that the U.S. will find itself with almost no support as a united northern Arab coalition, possibly Iraq & Syria armed with hordes of highly mobile and well-camouflaged tactical missile launchers tipped with weapons of mass destruction, may say it's trying "to rightfully wrest the control of Palestine and Egypt from U.S. hegemony and restore them to their Arab brethren." Daniel 11:15-16 may be saying that neither the U.S. nor Israel will find any defense against the use of hordes of missiles tipped with weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. will be defeated in its Mid-East position, Israel and Egypt will be occupied, and the tiny country of Israel will be almost completely destroyed.

This war may also cause the downfall of the U.S. at least in its superpower status, especially if China coordinates with the northern Arab coalition so that China attacks Taiwan will all its might at the same time the northern Arab coalition makes an all-out attack on Israel and Egypt. I believe a full-scale war over Taiwan is inevitable: China is only growing stronger and stronger militarily and they will eventually reach the point of confidence to attempt to take Taiwan, especially if they see that most of the U.S. military force is already fully engaged in a full-blown future Mid-East war.

I believe the U.S. losses in the Mid-East may be so great from the weapons of mass destruction which may be used against Israel and Egypt that public opinion in the U.S. may begin to say "What are we doing over there? 20,000 of our soldiers wiped out in Egypt in one day, for what? Let the Israelis come over here and live if they want, but by God, we're not going to lose the lives of any more Americans over this madness." And the U.S may retreat into a Fortress America mentality.

Daniel 11:17 may be saying that the northern Arab coalition will attempt to install its Baathist party in the occupied countries, backed up with tactical missiles ("upright ones"), but the Baathist regimes in Egypt and Israel will soon be at odds with the northern coalition.

Daniel 11:18-19 may be saying that the strong Arab leader who orchestrated the union of the northern Arab states and the defeat and occupation of Israel and Egypt will attempt to take more countries, but will be defeated. He will return to his own country and die or mysteriously disappear. His successor will not last long (Daniel 11:20), and a leader pro tempore will manage to take control of the northern coalition (Daniel 11:21).

Daniel 11:22 may be saying that this new leader will re-invade Israel and may defeat a false Messiah that will have managed to take control of the Knesset through the dominance of ultra-Orthodox parties. This may be the same "Messiah" referred to in Daniel 9:26. The "league" of Daniel 11:23 may be the same as the 7-year "covenant" or treaty referred to in Daniel 9:27, which would mean that the new leader of the northern coalition is the Antichrist.

Daniel 11:24 may be saying that the Antichrist will peaceably annex Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States into what he may call something like his "United Arab States," sharing their oil wealth among the poorer Arab states, and that he may send missiles into pockets of resistance supported by the U.S. for about a year. Daniel 11:25 may refer to an all-out offensive by the Antichrist against the U.S.' remaining Mid-East positions which the U.S. will respond to with an all-out defense, but this defense will fail for the most part due to the Antichrist's unrelenting barrage of tactical missiles ("forecast devices").

Daniel 11:26 may possibly refer to Russia's helping the Antichrist with its ICBM's and/or nuclear bombers to defeat the U.S., even though it will still be purchasing large amounts of grain from the U.S. Attempts at a peace treaty will fail (Daniel 11:27), and the Antichrist may begin to consider breaking his treaty with Israel (Daniel 11:28). He may attempt to consolidate his control of Israel, but the U.S. Navy may be able to attack him there, making the Antichrist increasingly set against Israel, using all the quislings he can find there to destroy it. (Daniel 11:29-30).

The Antichrist will commit the abomination of desolation (Daniel 11:31), which Jesus said about 33 A.D. had not yet happened (Matthew 24:15), so at this point we are definitely not reading about Antiochus Epiphanes in the 2nd century before Christ. The Antichrist may find supporters even among the Jews, though many will resist him (Daniel 11:32). Some will know from Bible prophecy exactly what is happening, though their knowledge will not spare them from the horrors of warfare and imprisonment and civil disorder (Daniel 11:33). Groups of believers resisting the Antichrist will be infiltrated and captured, but by God's grace their suffering will work for their spiritual good (Daniel 11:34-35).

The Antichrist will proclaim himself God above all gods (Daniel 11:36-37, compare 2 Thessalonians 2:4 and Revelation 13:6-8). I believe he will worship Satan (compare Revelation 13:4) and nuclear weaponry, and put his people in place throughout the territories under his control (Daniel 11:38-39). The U.S. may attempt to attack the Antichrist, but will be defeated and possibly occupied (Daniel 11:40, compare Revelation 13:4).

The Antichrist will completely subjugate Israel and many other countries, but for some reason won't bother to occupy Jordan (Daniel 11:41). He will take complete control of Egypt (Daniel 11:42-43). He may hear of China's and Russia's armies approaching against him from the east and from the north, and may begin to muster all of his forces in order to destroy them, and/or he may hear of the soon coming of Christ (Daniel 11:44, compare Revelation 16:12-16). He will set up his headquarters in Jerusalem, but Christ will destroy him at the 2nd coming (Daniel 11:45). Michael may be the archangel referred to in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 who accompanies Christ at his return (Daniel 12:1).

In Daniel 12:6-7, the 3 1/2 "times" may be referring to the 3 1/2 years (42 months) of the Antichrist's rule, during which time he is allowed to make war against the saints, and to overcome them (Revelation 13:5-7), and after which time I believe vials 1-5 (Revelation 16) will be poured out on his kingdom over a period of 30 days, during which time we don't see him persecuting believers. On day 1,290 (Daniel 12:11), I believe the 6th vial will be poured out preparing the way of the kings of the east (Revelation 16:12). It may then take about 45 days for the Antichrist and all the kings of the earth to gather all of their armies to Armageddon (Revelation 16:14). I believe Daniel 12:12 and Revelation 16:15 are the same blessing, so that we must wait until the 1,335th day for Christ to return to us, when he will destroy the Antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2:8).
