| WEST! ...................................................... biography | ||||||
| WEST! is Amy Coccia. Amy comes from a rich musical background, as she grew up listening to her father's band write and record in their basement studio in Ashtabula, OH. She started out playing the drums and singing back-up in another band, but has since taken the lead in her own musical pursuits, writing, playing the guitar, and singing. After another long stint with Brett Carney (vocals), Amy finally decided to go solo when Brett moved to Columbia, SC and couldn't come up to practice enough. Her music has evolved and become a pleasingly balanced blend of raw simplicity, intense emotion, thoughtful reflection, and pop-driven optimism. Amy's music and performance is an authentic story-telling session, not with verbal commentary, but with her unique ability to communicate using her music. Some have even said that Amy has a knack for making emotion audible. Ask Amy to tell you what her songs are about, and she'll tell you to listen and decide for yourself. Her style, which is driven by percussive guitars and catchy melodies, has been compared to the styles of Dashboard Confessional, and Saves the Day (mostly the acoustic stuff). Her vocals are charging and demand the attention of the audience as she is equally as aggressive vocally as she is with her music and performance.
