Omens
Some omens , today we call them superstitions, have been passed down through the ages from ancient times .
Walking under a ladder ......it has long believed to be bad luck. The Egyptian god
Osiris was said to have ascended to the sky by means of a ladder , as was the ancient Persian god Mithras, who, was much later worshiped by the soldiers of the Roman army.
Since ladders were so much in use by the gods , walking under them became taboo for humans in order to prevent the gods becoming angry

                        SALT
Salt was precious to the gods , and to humans as it was an important trade commodity. It was sprinkled on the heads of animals to be sacrificed, and was used in making solemn and binding agreements.
Spilling salt was unlucky in many ways , it offended the gods , was a sign of broken faith, and on a more mundane level was a waste of "money".
The interpretation of omens change from country to country ............

The Black Cat ....for example
if one crosses your path it is regarded as lucky in England , but is considered unlucky in other parts of Europe and in the USA.
