You Bet Your Sweet Ass I Rented This Video Game!

I rented a game over the weekend; it was Def Jam Vendetta. It is your basic Nintendo wrestling game; controls are similar if not exactly the same as any wrestling game on Nintendo 64. This game is a combination of wrestling and rap, featuring tracks from such rappers as DMX, Capone, and Ludacris, there were also some underground rappers like Joe Budden and Ghost.

Starting off you choose from one of four made up characters, not being biased a biased game you can choose from one of four nationalities; Asian, White, African, and Mexican. I chose the Mexican guy, who was named Spider. The game is simple, defeat you opponents and try to become the Def Jam Champ.

The story starts out with a text message from a friend of yours, he asks if you will wrestle in his place because he has an injury, although having not been in the ring for years you agree to help him out. When arriving to the match you see your ex girlfriend who shuns you as she walks by and goes to be with her new boyfriend, the Def Jam Champ. You act as if it doesn't bother you and walk off with another girl. The champ, who is appropriately named D-Mob, dresses and acts like the Don of some sort of wrestling mafia. You friend owes him a large sum of money so after you win the match you agree to help him wrestle until his debt is paid off. You later find out that your ex is still interested in you but makes no effort to actually get with you because she is afraid of D-Mob.

The moves in the game are you basic wrestling moves with new names for instance, a Suplex is called a "Slam Dance", and a Manhattan Drop, which is when you pick up your opponent by the waist then slam his groin down onto you knee, is called a "Junk Buster." The finishers in the game are moves you would only expect to see mythical Shoalin Monks pulling off if they ever were to get into the wrestling business. Spider's, my character, front finisher was similar to the Rock Bottom, but instead of just picking him up and slamming him down my character jumps into the air and does like a 360 before slamming him down, his back finisher consisted of him picking up the opponent over his head then doing a cart wheel on the opponent, when landing back on his feet he slams his opponent down hard onto his chest.

But don't fret all of you rap fans out there, you can wrestle with real rappers as well, you can use DMX, Ludacris, Method Man, and Red Man just to name a few. With its combination of rap stars, wrestling, and awesome soundtrack I would recommend this game to everyone.
