de Havilland Comet 1A..

The world's first jet powered airliner which made its maiden flight on 27 July 1949.

The first Comets suffered catastrophic structural failure which resulted in several

crashes and much loss of life. The design flaw was quickly identified and rectified

and the Comet serviced many air-routes successfully.By this time however, the much larger

Boeing 707 entered service and quickly came to dominate the long distance air-routes.

High altitude photo-reconnaissance aircraft. One of 22 PR9s fitted with a fighter off-set canopy.

 

Hawker Hunter T7A XL568.

This two-seat version of the Hunter was produced to help newly qualified pilots

make the transition from training aircraft to front line fighter. It made its final flight in 1993.

 

Gloster Javelin FAW1.

The world's first twin-jet, delta-wing fighter. Entered R.A.F. service in 1956 and was withdrawn in 1968.
