the LOGGA bed

Of the conventional beds that are generally available the LOGGA design from IKEA has a few advantages for adult use. The construction is reasonably robust. The design has strengthening tubular 'gussets' between the frame and the bed-head and foot. The general design is a 'ladder' of bars which offer versatility when deciding where and how to tie. The double bed also has a reinforcing vertical bar in the centre of the bed-head and foot. The ladder construction continues almost to the floor, allowing the head, when moved from the wall, to be used as a versatile tying frame.
the STORA bed

The STORA bed from IKEA is another design with a lot of potential. Its intended use is as a space-saver double bed with storage/recreation/study space beneath. The bed has obviously substantial posts as part of its construction. The mattress platform uses timber slats. These can be used to secure the subject in the ideal position, and slats can be removed as required to gain access to the subject at the positions required. The slats can be used to suspended the subject beneath the platform, provided the subject's weight is distibuted over a number of slats, or the slats are doubled at the support points as necessary. Attention should be paid to the fixing of the slats to the bed-frame. Metal frame-cramps can be added to ensure a secure fixing at these points, when not being used as intended. The headroom clearance under the bed is limited at 1675mm. This could be increased by replacing the supplied legs, but if the ceiling height is limited, it may cause the bed to become conventionally unuseable. Adding leg extenders, sandwiching the same cross section of timber between suitable ply plates, bolted through either side of the existing legs, may be a more convenient way of attaining added headroom.

The STORA bed is available without the bookcase and workbench at reduced cost.
