The Magician Tarot Card
At #1, the Magician is the male power of creation, creation by will.
He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand (Mercury *was* the god of thieves!) and a medicine man - either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil.lpower and desire

The Magician is a metaphor for the raw power of the conscious mind. Informed, powerful, and active, he is the icon for all that can be achieved in reality through human willpower and cleverness. The magician - the symbol for a trained, rational self - is a honed force that has many crafts at his command.

Because he represents thought divorced from other factors, he doesn't have a higher purpose. He's motivated by his own cleverness and this leaves him vulnerable to the consequences of his actions. He relies only upon logic, skill, and tangible arts that bring direct results. He views emotion, commerce, thought, and creation merely as tools because his ability to manipulate them is new.

It's no wonder he is fascinated by his own tricks. The arts and crafts of the magician have allowed mankind to perform wonders - science is a product of the inquiring, acquisitive intellect he represents. In fact, if our species is distinguished by being the animal that thinks, then it is the force of the magician within us that makes us what we are.
