Rehrmann Chooses Kramer
Integrity, Ability and Experience Hallmarks of the Rehrmann Team
LAUREL, MD--Eileen Rehrmann, Democratic candidate for Governor, today named former Montgomery County Executive Sid Kramer as her Lieutenant Governor running mate. She described Kramer as the person with "the experience, competence, ability and integrity to make our plan for Maryland's future a success."
Kramer told a news conference at the new Rehrmann/Kramer campaign headquarters in Laurel,"together, we can restore integrity, honesty and the public's interest to the Governor's office."
Rehrmann praised Kramer's record of four years on the Montgomery County council, eight years in the state legislature and four years as County Executive, as well as his experience as a businessman. "He is a man of integrity, who says what he means and means what he says" Rehrmann said.
"Together we bring over 36 years of solid experience in government," Rehrmann said. "We know how to do the job and do it right in the best interests of the citizens of our great state. Maryland can be better, it must be better for our future, for our children's future and for generations to come."
Kramer said he agreed to join the Rehrmann campaign "because Eileen Rehrmann has a proven record of successes and accomplishments over nearly 20 years in public service...who is a leader of integrity whose word is her bond...and because Eileen Rehrmann is the only Democrat who can restore public trust in the Governor's office."
Kramer sharply criticized Parris Glendening for leaving a huge deficit in Prince George's County when he left for Annapolis, accepting large political donations from a health management organization seeking a state contract, reneging on a promise to build the Inter County Connector in Montgomery County, and negotiating a bad stadium deal in Baltimore.
"We have a governor who focuses on polls, not principles, who puts his personal interests ahead of the public interest," Kramer said. "Eileen Rehrmann is a leader who can restore trust to the Governor's office."
Rehrmann said she expected the Lt. Governor to be a partner in governing state government, working with the legislature and local governments and in formulating policy.
She listed many of her priorities as governor: A health care Bill of Rights for patients in HMOs, reducing violent juvenile crime, 2000 additional teachers by the year 2000, elimination of the state property tax, and providing a skilled work force and business regulatory reform to improve Maryland's business climate.
"We have a lot to do," she said.
