Public Praise for God's Miracle in our life!

I wanted to write about a situation that just recently happened in our life and how the power of Prayer definitely works!

On Sept 23, 2003 my youngest son Robbie woke up with a sore throat, I was frustrated because he had already missed several days of school and made him attend thinking he would get better as the day went on, plus my husband had a doctors appointment in Nashville that same day. The doctors appointment didn't go as well as we had hoped getting the bad news that he most likely has nerve damage to his back and nothing more could be done other than treating the symptoms. While in Nashville, the transmission went out on our van and we had to get a ride home from my mother in law. After returning home, Robbie was still complaining about his throat hurting. I got a flashlight and looked in his throat and to my surprise he had badly swollen tonsils and big white spots on them. I called the doctor and he could not take any more work ins that day but gave me an appointment for the next morning. Robbie was miserable all that night and got very little rest, I considered taking him to the emergency room but new that I could not afford it and I had a doctors appointment the next morning. I prayed that he would get some rest, he slept on and off that evening.

The next morning I looked at his throat again and his tonsils where totally swollen together, and the right tonsil was solid white. His neck was also swollen and he looked like he had mumps. When we arrived at the doctors office the Nurse Practioner called the doctor in the room and after taking one look he sent my son to the hospital to be admitted. Robbie was running a fever over 101 degrees, dehydrated and throat hurting. I said a prayer that the nurse would be able to find a vein easily for the IV, that was the first answered prayer! Fluids and antibiotics where started and pain medicine was given. Thursday he showed little improvement, he slept most of the day. Early in the morning around 3 am, he was showing some signs of breathing difficulty and his O2 sats where dropping into the high 80's, the nurse called to the respiratory therapist, he examined him and noticed that his lungs where full, he started breathing treatments and a "mist mask". The infection had now moved to his lungs. Prayer again was answered and pneumonia was prevented! Friday was pretty calm, with breathing treatments continuing, steroids where added. He felt pretty good but the swelling of his tonsils where still bad and he had been diagnosed with having Strep as well as tonsillitis. He was in alot of pain and couldn't swallow, he couldn't eat any thing but popcicles. His white cell count was high. That evening he developed sleep apnea, his O2 sats where dropping again and the swelling in his lymph nodes and neck became worse. Saturday when Robbie woke up he was complaining that his nose was getting stuffy, sure enough he had developed a sinus infection as well. Other than that he felt bad but ok when awake, but he could not stay awake for long, his fever went up to 103. They increased his breathing treatments, added antihistamines for his sinuses and added oxygen to his mask.

Sunday morning Robbie started trying to "sleepwalk" He thought he was "going to be late for school", he was talking out of his head about all kinds off things, He tried to "kick our dog off his bed" thinking she was in the room with him, he also thought his brother BJ was yelling at him, (his brother wasn't even there either) He constantly asked what day it was and just didn't act right, you could tell in his eyes how sick he was and that something bad was happening. When he would fall asleep he would struggle to breath in, it was frustrating to watch! You could shake him and he would awaken and gasp a deep breath. The Doctor came in for his rounds and noticed how he was breathing, he stayed in the room with us for over 30 minutes watching him and shaking him from time to time. He gave him more steroids and prayed for him. When he left he informed me that if the steroids didn't help he would have to be moved to another hospital to see a ENT specialist. It was discussed putting a tube through his nostril to give him an airway but his tonsils where too swollen to even do that. Before the doctor returned his breathing got worse and he couldn't stay awake,  He even told me that "when I go to sleep I feel like I am going to die". One of the nurses from the emergency room who is a friend of mine got the ball rolling, she had another ER nurse come and examine Robbie. From there the ER doctor was informed of what was going on. She ordered a soft tissue xray of his neck. When she looked at the xray, she immediately contacted his doctor and informed him of how bad his throat was swollen and that this airway was almost completely closed off he needed to be moved "now". I made calls to family and church family. Robbie was going to be transferred to another hospital as soon as possible. Brother Victor called a special alter prayer for our family as well as a sister church who did the same, the doctor prayed for Robbie as they loaded him to the stretcher for transport. He was alert at this time, but confused. I knew things where serious but didn't realise the extent of it until I heard the EMT radio in as we where leaving that "there is a very high probability that we will have to pull over and put a treach on this young man if we do get to us immediately I just want to give you a heads up". My adrenaline was sky high and heart was racing. We went urgent transport with lights and siren to the other hospital.  This is where the power of prayer was made noticeable. On the way to the hospital, Robbie stayed alert, although weak, he even laughed at the EMT's jokes, he breathing was improving already!! Robbie was taken through the ER of Sumner Regional and admitted to a room. The ENT doctor meet us there  explained what he thought was going on and started heavy doses of steroids and a different antibiotic. He was diagnosed with Mono as well as strep and tonsillitis. I watched him through the night and noticed that he was not struggling as hard to breath. He was resting and not having nightmares or awakening in a panic to breath. On Monday morning he woke up saying "Good morning Mommy!" he had a smile on his face, his color had improved, his fever was gone! I asked him if I could look at his throat, when he opened his mouth I seen that the tonsils where half the size they where! He had an airway the size of a quarter!!!!!! The swelling in his neck was almost completely gone!!!!! His throat did not hurt at all!!! He had an appetite!! He wanted to eat!!!  He was taken off of oxygen and allowed to eat solid food as tolerated, and eat he did! For lunch he ate: 1/2 arbys french dip sandwich, chicken salad on crackers, fruit, a hamburger and french fries, ice cream and drank milk, tea, juice and water!! For supper he had a plate of spaghetti, garlic cheese bread, chicken strips, french fries, pie, ice cream and several drinks. He ate all that with NO PAIN, no irritation, and no more swelling! Robbie was released from the hospital that evening! He is well on this way to a full recovery! He is still a little weak from being so so sick but he is ready to go back to school. He has only a few restrictions when he does return. I just wanted to publicly PRAISE GOD for the miracle he preformed on my son! the POWER OF PRAYER is a wonderful thing! I was told later just how serious the situation was when the decision was made to move my son to another hospital. I was told that if he had moved his head a certain way his airway could have collapsed and the way the swelling was they wouldn't have been able to get an airway in at all, I was also told that is was possible there was an abscess behind the swollen tonsils that could have busted and that would have gotten into his blood stream and killed him, I was told as they where loading my son into the ambulance by a bystander that they same thing happened to his son and he was on life support for two days. God truly performed a miracle in our life! There is no other explanation for his quick recovery! Even the doctors admitted that!

on another note..... The transmission of our van is going to cost approximately $900.00 to repair, The Lord has taken care of that also! What a wonderful Lord we serve! He always comes through! You gotta love him! I have such a peace even through all of the trails we are facing knowing he will always meet our needs the way he promised!

I want to thank everyone who prayed for us and ask that you please remember to continue to keep us in your prayers!

Another note of praise! In October '03 My family lost our home to fire, Luckly no one was home due to have an dictors apptiontment for my husband we where saved from being in the house. Had we been there they said we would haved never made it out alive. We lost serveral beloved pets and 15 years worth of memories but we are all ok. Our church let us rent the parsonage for six months until we could get on our feet and get things figured our. The Lord blessed us with a wonderful real estate agent that is also a missonary and pastor who prayed with us and found us a wonderful home that the Lord blessed us with! To me it's a masion! I feel undeserving of such a beautiful home but the Lord whispered to me after my asking what did I do to deserve such a home " You kept the faith". We have had trail after trail these past few months but through it all I stood on God's promises that he would take care of us. I was bound and determined that no matter what ever satan through in our way he would not win, the more he hit us, the harder I was going to work for the Lord. I know I will still have trails to go through but I feel so blessed that the Lord seen fit to bless us in such a way. Another prayer was answered as well. My husband was also approved for his disabilty after two years of fighting the system and that has taken so much stress off of him, he will also be able to see another doctor to see what else if anything can be done for him to help his pain. I have promised God that if our testimony could help anyone out there going through such devestating times as we have been through that we would help in any way possible and hopefully be a walking testimony on How Great God is! How he sees you through it and gives you peace when you feel there is no way out. I pray that he continues to use us in whatever he has in store for us.I pray that I will follow in God's will and do his work whatever it may be. Please continue to pray for us.

Sincerely,

Lynn
