Mr. Stephen J. Conklin of Port Jervis, NY, a lifetime resident of the area died Friday, August 4, 2006 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 40.
He was born October 25, 1965 in Port Jervis, NY the son of the late Lester W. and the late Charlotte McGaw Conklin.
A 1983 graduate of Port Jervis High School, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Excelsior Engine Co. No. 5, and the Port Jervis Democratic Committee. Steve was just elected to his 3rd consecutive term as 4th Ward Councilman and was the senior sitting Council Member in the city of Port Jervis. Steve also served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee and and was a member of the Code & Legislative Committee and Public Works Committee. He also served as Liaison to the Recreation and Tourism committees, Community Development Agency and IDA, as well as being a member of the Community Development Agency Board and Core Committee for The Centennial Celebration.
A family statement read: �Steve was a loving husband, father and brother. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching his favorite baseball team, the Mets. He was dedicated to his 4th ward councilman position and enjoyed working with the people in the city of Port Jervis�.
Steve worked as a Retail Manager for 6 years at the Family Dollar in Port Jervis.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Bittle Conklin at home
2 daughters: Alyson Conklin and Kara Conklin at home
Son: Gregory Conklin at home
Brother: Lester Conklin & his wife Sheila Port Jervis
Sister: Shelly Morgan & her husband Chris Sparrowbush
