James Family



John A. James was born about 1808 in South Carolina. He married Rhoda Strong (born about 1803 in Mississippi) in 1833 in Claiborne County, Mississippi. They had the following children:

  3. Augustus James born 1838 Copiah Co, MS; married first Lucinda Swinney, children: Wiley, John, James, and Samuel James; Augustus married second Mrs. Nancy "Nanny" Hubbard, children: Lee, Oscar, and Joseph James
  4. John Q. A. James born abt 1842, Copiah Co, MS; married Fannie Miers in 1871; eight children
  5. Jane James born abt 1844 MS (no other info)

John A. James married second Angeline Moore, born about 1839 in TN. John A. James and Angeline Moore had the following children:

  1. Pinkney James born about 1861 in Copiah Co, MS; married Fannie Montgomery
  2. Palisade James born about 1863 in Copiah Co, MS
  3. William James born about 1865 in Copiah Co, MS; married Mollie Wooten

Jesse James, second child of John A. James and Rhoda Strong, was born March 4, 1836, in Copiah County, Mississippi. He married Mary A. Warrick November 9, 1865, in Copiah County, Mississippi, and died June 19, 1921, in Flora, Madison County, MS. Mary A. Warrick was born about 1846 in Alabama and died about 1890 in Flora, MS. Jesse James and Mary A. Warrick had the following children:

  1. George W. James born 1867 in MS; married Aby Stegall; died 1932 in Flora, MS
  2. Margaret James born about 1871 in MS
  3. Mary Elizabeth James born 1873 in MS; married 1st Taylor Axton; married 2nd Rafe Price; married 3rd Luther (or LeAnder) Pittman; died 1964 in Monroe, Louisiana
  4. Lillie May James born 1875 in MS; married Lee Batte
  5. Jesse James, Jr. born about 1877 in MS
  6. Ancy Price James born 1879 in Bolton, MS; married Sarah Catherine Westbrook; died 1966 in Memphis, TN; Ancy Price and Sarah Catherine are buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. Children:
