Thomas Howard was born about 1809 in North Carolina. He resided in Mobile County, Alabama, and Carroll County, Mississippi. He married Jemima (maiden name unknown) probably in Alabama, and died in Carroll County, MS, in 1887. He did not leave a will, but his estate was administered in Carroll County in 1887 with no mention of Jemima, so she apparently predeceased him. Children of Thomas Howard and Jemima:

- Rebecca Jane Howard born abt 1833, AL; married Stephen S. Lancaster; Children: Mary Ann Lancaster b abt 1854; John C. Lancaster b abt 1867; Ella Lancaster b abt 1871; and William Lancaster b abt 1874. They were in Carroll County, Mississippi, in 1860 and 1870; then in Nevada County, Arkansas, in 1880.
- Caswell Howard born 1835, MS; married Sarah Ann Bachman; nine children
- James Howard born abt 1837, MS; married Elmina Helen Bennett 1860, Carroll Co., MS; one child, Nathan Howard
- Charlotte Howard born abt 1839, MS; married Jesse L. Locke; children: Mary Elizabeth Locke married William C. Campbell; Jesse T. Locke; James Mabry Locke married Abbie Lillian Howell; Elva J. Locke married Robert E. L. Williams; John W. Locke; and Caswell Locke.
- Elizabeth Howard born abt 1841, MS; married Augustus Morgan; children: William A. Morgan and Lewis Morgan; at least four other children for whom I only have initials from census records.
- Joseph Howard born abt 1845, MS (no other info)
- Eliza Ann Howard born abt 1847, MS; married Merritt Morgan Mullen; children: James, Laura, Ida, and Bettie Mullen
- Martha E. Howard born abt 1847, MS; married (?) Morman; one child, Jim Morman. I would really like to get information on Jim.
- E. T. Howard born 1852; died 1886; married Virginia (?); buried near McCarley, Carroll County, MS. Below is a rubbing from his tombstone in an abondened cemetery; one child that I know of: Mary S. Howard
