Mick Jagger
Megastar/June 5, 1999
Mick Jagger is getting his maracas out with a cracker from Caracas 25 years his junior.
Mick first met long-legged Venezuelan Vanessa Neumann when she was a toddler on a rocking horse. Now ol' rubber lips wants Vanessa to keep her mouth shut about their passion. But the sexy South American heiress can't wait to spill the beans and yesterday spoke out about their love for the first time. The 28-year-old Porsche driving babe is not after Mick's money. She is the grand-daughter of a German rocket tycoon who backed Hitler and is worth £120 million. Vanessa's fortune is not far behind Mick's £125 million cash pile - and she will top it if wife Jerry Hall gets the £28 million divorce settlement she's after. Yesterday Vanessa told how their friendship blossomed on the Caribbean island of Mustique, where Mick and Vanessa's mega-rich family have hideaway homes. Brainy Vanessa - who is studying in New York to become a doctor of philosophy - believes they are a "good match". Vanessa said: "It's like being on a boat. You end up partying with the same people three times a day just because you have to because it's such a small island. "And, just as I have been there since the early Seventies, so has he. We've both been there for years. "Obviously, we didn't find one another right at first because I was only a baby. It blossomed subsequently. "We became a good match in later times. He doesn't want me to talk about it. "There's only one house, actually a very small sliver of land, between his house and mine. We're separated by only a couple of hundred yards. "He's extremely intelligent. He's also considerate and kind. And I know him to be a gentleman. "Even when people assess him primarily as a playboy, this has nothing to do with his moral fibre. Another thing: Women just throw themselves at him. I've seen it. They're literally breaking down his doors." "With the divorce and all he's going through, this is a difficult time for him and talking would seem a betrayal on my part." Vanessa's former lover, socialite Toby Young, would rather she didn't talk about it too. The fling has left him devastated. He reportedly seethed to a friend: "What do women see in him? "She told me he's got incredible stamina. We're talking five times a night. He must be on Viagra. But Vanessa said absolutely not. The only thing he takes is vitamins." "With his spindly little legs, oversized head and enormous lips, he looks like a badly drawn caricature." Vanessa's mother, Antonia, is a fiery red-haired Irish beauty from New York. Her father, Miguel, is a mega-rich Venezuelan who has told Vanessa that one day she will own Mustique. Her grandfather, Hans, was a manufacturing tycoon who helped develop paint for Hitler's V2 rockets which blitzed London during World War Two. He escaped to Venezuela after passing secrets to the British. Mick's fortune, meanwhile, is also being threatened by a paternity suit from underwear model Luciana Morad, who says she has given birth to his seventh child. He's fought Jerry's mega-cash claim by alleging they were never legally married - despite a ceremony in 1990 on the island of Bali. Before filing for divorce furious Jerry branded him a "lying, cheating, no-good slimeball". One of his flings was with Italian model Carla Bruni, who later said Mick had bedded 7,000 women. Jerry, 42, has hired the best lawyers to negotiate a deal for her and their four kids after Mick's fling with Luciana proved the last straw in their 21-year old relationship. Mick has said he is prepared to take a DNA test to find out whether he's the father of Morad's baby boy. The tangle doesn't bother besotted Vanessa, who has bought a house in St John's Wood to be near the star when he's in London. Vanessa, who returned to New York after visiting Jagger in the UK, plans to go back to college in September to finish her Ph.D. She said about their relationship: "Given my background, I realise that we are an odd combination, but then it's difficult to judge other people and know what would make them happy. "There's a lot more substance to Mick than people think." But Vanessa's mother may not be quite so happy with her daughter's new relationship. She is reported as describing Mick as "a slimy old man." The first leg of the Stones' UK tour starts today kicking off at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium. |
