As
many of you know, I spent my entire second semester in London. So, here is a
part of my webpage devoted to it.
Now,
a year later, I will actually put something up here. Thus, the
sign.

LONDON

This is our somewhat tired group after the 7hr flight which takes 12 hours due to the time difference.
Now, here is my journal.
Entry Friday, 1-12-00
Arrival in London. Flight was long and restless, good video games though, and fun times w/ Christine, Karen, and Elizabeth who sat in my row on the plane. Took first tour of surrounding areas, it was ok, but different. Stepped in an oil puddle. Missed dinner. Not generally happy about missing dinner, my room size, and stupid discomforts of being in a foreign country.
Entry Saturday, 1-13-00
Went to Barbican on a trip w/ others. Was hit by falling debris thrown by ruffians. Stepped in dog poop on a bridge – who lets their dog poop on a bridge for crying out loud. Andrew, Nathan and I went to Euston station on the Tubes and discovered a burger king for a sort of cheap lunch. Shopped at Waitrose (a supermarket) and found bread for 17p! Also picked up some Fanta (which is orange pop). Went to Wardwells to try and fix the email for the group.
Entry Sunday, 1-14-00
Travelled in search of a church at Bromsberry (i think) ended up at a catholic (or anglican) establishment. Obviously I didn’t really know what was going on I was just following the crowd. Communion was served with wine, and before I realized it was wine it was shoved down my throat by a priest. I suppose the whole deal was a good experience. Went to an opera at night, interesting but annoying because they were speaking some other language like Polish and you had to read subtitles to understand anything. Got some good pictures though.
Entry Monday, 1-15-00
A guy has his tractor stuck in the muddy park across the street, so a bunch of us helpful Houghton kiddies helped push him out. I got mud all over my pants in the process. Clothing supplies are dwindling at an extreme rate - may push up laundering schedule a few days. First day of class - went faster than I thought for a 3 hr lecture. They serve tea during our break on a cart, but it was 20p a cup. A rip-off compared to my loaf of bread for 17p at Waitrose. My email works now, and I sent the first email from any of the London Students. I went on a run with Andrew, cheered on by an English guy with crazy hair and a long beard.
Entry Tuesday, 1-16-00
First day of colloquy, it was also better than expected, and I spoke twice during it. The goal is to talk as much as possible during a colloquy session. Hopefully I talked enough for a good grade. First successful email for around half of the students. This unfortunately meant that the other half was still experiencing problems, which meant that I as tech support was going to have a lot of work on my hands. Todays Tube stop discovery was Warren Street. Went to the British Museum with Andrew and Nathan - saw some good artifacts and artwork. I tried to take pictures of everything with my digital camera but there was just too much. We went to some sandwhich shop for lunch which was a total rip-off. Not enough food for what we paid, so we ended up going to Bagelmania to get some good old bagels.
Entry Wednesday, 1-17-00
Colloquy with Dr. Jensen - I liked it. Went to Victoria Albert museum, Trajans column was pretty darn big. Bought bananas for a pound - really good deal.
Entry Thursday, 1-18-00
Frisbee in the park. Colloquy wasn’t very exciting - Dr. Wardwell talked alot. Went to Leicster square, and Covent gardens at night with some of the others. Us guys were suckered into buying roses for the girls by a more than aggressive salesman - 7 roses at a pound a piece. They are very persistent and are probably making a fortune of any tourist that hits the streets. We fit 8 people in a phone booth, not too bad. Unfortunately the bananas are going bad quick, I guess that is what a pound will get you.
And that was just the first week.
WEEK 2
Entry Friday, 1-19-00
Played "take one" with Karen and Alyssa, and Meara, and Amy, and Andrew, and Alethea. It was fairly exciting, mostly because we were procrastinating from writing our first paper. First paper topic wasn’t that fun to get. Bananas are in the trash – they have stunk up my room with the stench of rottenness. That lady who sold them knew they were going bad and that’s why she got rid of them to unsuspecting little old me. I bought crackers for 34p at Tesco - good deal, me Andrew and Nathan sure are thrifty.
Entry Saturday, 1-20-00
A bunch of us went and played football in the park with the Wardwells – I can’t say I’d ever played football with a professor before, but it was a lot of fun. Met O'Cailey, nice kid, who came and played with us all. Work on paper for a long time, not too much progress.
Entry Sunday, 1-21-00
We made it to Trinity Brompton today, and it was an enjoyable service. It rained alot too. A few of us more daring people ran in our church clothes in the rain to make it back in time for grapefruit that is served at lunch time. I worked on the paper some more. I left my door open, and had many visitors come to visit. Unfortunately, I ended up working on my paper until 2:30 in the morning, but at least its finally done.
Entry Monday, 1-22-00
Went to plenary, not very enjoyable. Read during the afternoon. Nathan gets aggressive, starts a food fight with condiments, and tackles Caleb and Jon – it was unbelievable. Beef for dinner, perhaps a mad cow disease epidemic to break out, its too early to say for sure. 3 more boxes of tesco crackers at 34p, I am set for about a week I estimate.
Entry Tuesday, 1-23-00
Museum Day. It took around 3 hours to visit all the assignments at the British Museum - not terribly fun. Went to the Wardwells for a party - spilled orange tango everywhere. Played a boche-like game with the Wardwell children Andrew and Aaron, I lost, Christine won. Nathan organizes everyone to say good call when I got the secret of white magic (it’s a game of sorts). Karen and I are thinking of a way to prank Andrew good, we'll wait to see what happens...
Entry Wednesday, 1-24-00
Read St. Augustines confessions - I am way ahead of everyone this time I bet. This is because I read some of it over Christmas break. I walked with Mike to see a homeless guy who didn’t end up being there, but we had a very good conversation on the way, God is amazing.
That’s it for now. No one could read it all at once anyways.
