Barcelona
October 2000
Barcelona is also great because it's a port city.  It's got a very nice waterfront area called Port Vell -- great for sitting outside at a cafe and having tapas in the sunshine!

We also headed out to Port Vell one evening (turns out it was October 31st)
and came upon a mini parade with fire-breathing dragons and a drum ensemble.
We can only assume it had something to do with Halloween.  At any rate,
we joined the crowd and danced to the drums -- very cool.

The bottom left picture shows our hotel, all dressed up with flowers
for a wedding that was scheduled later in the day.

On our final day, we found the best tapas bar we'd seen all week.  The photo on
the bottom right was taken by Katie (sitting inside and eating tapas), through the
cafe window, while Chris dashed outside to buy a couple of bargain neckties
from a street vendor before the police came along and shooed the seller away.
Chris is the one in the dark blue polo shirt with the shopping bag at the right
of the picture.  We could have gotten some great deals on "geniune" Louis Vitton handbags on the streets, too -- or pashmina, or watches, or just about
anything else that might have caught our fancy!
