Being that I'm a woman myself, I tend to unfairly overlook some of the more talented actresses in Hollywood.  Like THAT GUYS, most of these actresses tend to be generally ignored or passed over by Hollywood, whether it's due to unconventional looks or a deliberate attempt to stay away from such dreck as She's All That and Erin Brockovich.  Though I don't have the time to be able to give each of these talented, thoroughly underappreciated actresses their very own page, here's a brief look at them.
LILI TAYLOR--born 2/20/1967.  Possibly the very favorite actress of the designer behind THAT GUY, Lili Taylor has been teetering on the very edge of big time stardom for at least the past five years now, appearing in most of Robert Altman's most recent films, and winning much critical acclaim as confirmed nutjob Valerie Solanas in 1995's I Shot Andy Warhol.  However, Taylor seems to prefer staying out of the limelight, only taking the occasional role like Gary Sinise's kidnapper girlfriend in Ransom and concentrating more of her time on such roles as the title character in the 2001 independent feature Julie Johnson.  If her long-awaited performance in the biopic Janis is ever released, she may become a superstar whether she likes it or not.
RECOMMENDED FILMS: High Fidelity, Pecker, Kicked in the Head, Ransom, I Shot Andy Warhol, The Addiction, Cold Fever, Short Cuts, Household Saints, Dogfight, Say Anything...

CATHERINE KEENER--born 1961.  What kind of woman could be desired by John Cusack, John Malkovich, and Cameron Diaz, all in one movie? Catherine Keener, that's who.  In Being John Malkovich, she plays Maxine, the object of obsession for both puppeteer Craig Schwartz and his wife Lotte, and later for befuddled John Malkovich.  Maxine is shocked to learn that she's attracted to Lotte as well--but only when she's "being" John Malkovich.  Catherine Keener has made a career out of playing witty ballbreakers who alternately seduce and cut to shreds the innocent men in her life, as seen in such movies as Your Friends & Neighbors, Walking and Talking, and Living in Oblivion.  A frequent leading lady to fellow THAT GUY Kevin Corrigan (and married in real life to THAT GUY Dermot Mulroney), Keener seems secure in her role as indie queen second only to Lili Taylor, as her only major studio motion picture in recent years was 8MM, where she played the wife of Nicolas Cage's tortured private detective.
RECOMMENDED FILMS: Being John Malkovich, Your Friends & Neighbors, Walking and Talking, Living in Oblivion, Johnny Suede

N'BUSHE WRIGHT--born 1970.  The biggest badass in 1995's Dead Presidents was not Larenz Tate, or Chris Tucker, or even Keith David.  No, that would be N'Bushe Wright, who shocked audiences with her violent character change during the climactic armored car robbery, when she came bursting out of a dumpster with both guns blazing, taking out roughly three quarters of the armored car guards before going down in a hail of bullets.  The far more attractive than Halle Berry N'Bushe Wright has only been featured in a handful of films since her debut in 1992's Zebrahead, but her performances are always memorable, whether it's playing one half of a high school interracial romance in Zebrahead or the junkie sister of the title character in 1994's Fresh, she's always been memorable..  Her most recent role of note was playing Wesley Snipes's leading lady in 1998's Blade.
RECOMMENDED FILMS
: Blade, Dead Presidents, Fresh, Zebrahead

MOIRA KELLY--born 3/6/1968.  We don't know where Moira Kelly keeps her youth serum, but this gal sure as hell doesn't look 33 years old.  In fact, most of her career has been based upon playing naive young girls most often manipulated by insidious older men.  She made her acting debut in the 1991 TV movie Love, Lies & Murder at age 23, playing a 14 year-old murderer.  The roles got bigger over time, but her characters still stayed roughly the same age, as she played teenagers in Billy Bathgate, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, The Cutting Edge, Chaplin, and With Honors.  Only by around 1995 did Moira Kelly finally start getting adult parts, but regardless of the age of the characters she plays, Kelly always has a timeless quality in all of her performances, whether playing a 1920's vaudeville showgirl in Chaplin or playing a survivor of a futuristic plague in Daybreak.  She was most recently seen as political consultant Mandy Hampton on TV's The West Wing, unfortunately killed off by an assassin's bullet at the end of the first season.
RECOMMENDED FILMS: Dangerous Beauty, Little Odessa, Chaplin, The Cutting Edge, Love, Lies and Murder

SHERYL LEE--born 4/22/1967.  Let's cue the moody music of Twin Peaks while we talk about Sheryl Lee.  David Lynch personally chose newcomer Sheryl Lee to play Madonna-whore murder victim Laura Palmer, the linchpin for all the mysterious goings-on in the groundbreaking 1990 TV series Twin Peaks (and rumor has it that was her real prom picture that was used in the end credits sequence).  Though few people really knew what to make of the series that was chockfull of midgets and evil alter egos, Twin Peaks gained a large and still faithful cult following, and Lynch was so pleased with Lee's performance that he wrote a second character for her to play.  Not bad for someone whose film debut was in something called The Pink Chiquitas, starring Frank Stallone.  Since then, Sheryl Lee reprised her role as Laura Palmer and was subsequently the only high point of the Twin Peaks prequel Fire Walk With Me, and has also effectively played other victims of society in such films as Bliss, This World, Then the Fireworks, and
Mother Night.
RECOMMENDED FILMS: Vampires, Bliss, Mother Night, Backbeat, Love, Lies and Murder, "Twin Peaks" (series only)

FAIRUZA BALK--born 5/21/1974.  We love Fairuza Balk just because of her amazing turquoise eyes (supposedly, that's what "Fairuza" means in Turkish).  But we also love Fairuza Balk because she's the anti-Julia Roberts/Rachael Leigh Cook/Tara Reid--a very pretty woman who doesn't coast through her career on her looks without the talent to back it up.  Fairuza made her film debut as Dorothy Gale in 1985's Return to Oz, a strangely downbeat retelling of The Wizard of Oz, and ever since then has taken roles in lesser known but no less deserving of attention films as Gas Food Lodging, Tollboth, and Imaginary Crimes.  In the past few years, she's shown a special strength in "creepy girl" roles, like teen witch Nancy Downs in The Craft (the only good part about that horrible movie) and Edward Norton's skinhead girlfriend Stacey in American History X.  She most recently appeared as one of the lead "Band Aids" alongside Kate Hudson in Almost Famous, but her unique persona seems to be the genuine article--she owns an occult shop in Los Angeles.  She also has active input on her way cool official website.
RECOMMENDED FILMS: Almost Famous, American History X, The Maker, Tollbooth, Imaginary Crimes, Murder in the Heartland, Gas Food Lodging, Valmont
