It is that time of year again, when the Dragons cause their fans heartache. Last game of the season, do or die. Yes it is the beginning of May again. This season as usual there is a little twist of course, not only can the Dragons make the playoffs, if they lose they might also be relegated. ________________________________________ 'No question, we are playing 100% today, today is our do or die day' -Locke Harbour Dragons coach Keith Wright ________________________________________ Tied to the fortunes of the Dragons are the defending champion Stanislav Lions who incidentally play the Peace Warriors (who the Dragons are currently tied with for 5th spot overall. Finally last in the mix are the Pearson Cliffs Pirates who do not have to fear about being relegated but still need a win in order to guarantee a playoff birth. 'I cannot recall a rugby season going down to the wire like this with so many teams capable of so many things', noted sports commentator Jim Wilson of PLRX sports radio. Indeed this is the first time four teams have been vying for either a playoff spot or to avoid relegation. The Dragons, in order to make the playoffs, need Pearson Cliffs to lose to already relegated Magna Carta. Something that is hardly likely. Still the Dragons, by beating the Wasps can ensure they have a chance at the playoffs and avoid relegation. If the Dragons lose however then things get messy. At 26 points the Dragons are three points ahead of 7th place Stanislav Lions, and are tied for 5th with the Peace Warriors who play one another today. If Peace wins then Locke Harbour will be in tier 1 next year irrespective of how the Dragons do against the Wasps today, if Stanislav wins however, and the Dragons lose by more then 7 points, then at best the Dragons will have to have a playoff against the Warriors, loser going to tier 2 next season. Even worse, if the Dragons lose by more then 7 points and Peace loses but by 7 points or less, then the Dragons are automatically eliminated. 'No question, we are playing 100% today, today is our do or die day', noted coach Keith Wright. |
The Dragons hope to run the ball well against Camelot today. |
