The battle of Locke Harbour was a comedy of errors where the Dragons
somehow came out on top at the end of one of the most bizarre matches in
recent memory. On an overcast day, with no precipitation, both teams
managed to drop the ball or knock it on with virtually every other chance
they had to handle it.
Coach Keith Wright of the Dragons especially seemed disgusted by the end of the match, despite the win for his team, with all the missed tackles and other 'amateur' moves by his team. 'We definitely were lucky that we were playing the Blues', he quipped in regards to the pathetic nature of the cross town rivals from Locke Harbour South, who despite playing an away game had plenty of fans in the stands. Coach Joseph Daniels of the Blues meanwhile, seemed equally unimpressed with the performance from his team though was happy that his team had finally managed to score their first try of the season. ________________________________________ '...it's pretty sad that Locke Harbour has two teams and both of them are as horrible as this...' -Dragons fan, in regards to the quality of play on the field today. ________________________________________ What had been billed as a clash of titans for the fans to watch, instead turned into a showcase of bloopers for 2006. At half, with the Dragons up 7-0, both teams left the field to a chorus of boos and other chants in regards to the play on the field. The Dragons came out in the second half fired up scoring an early try to make it 14-0, however the Blues managed to get two tries of their own though missed both conversions. A drop kick in the 79th minute made the score 17-10 for the Dragons and helped to dash any hopes the Blues had of an upset. After the game, furious fans vented their anger over the play on the field by both sides. Blues fans lamented that Camelot had not gotten their, 'sorry franchise'. Dragons fans meanwhile, standing alongside their counterparts from Locke Harbour South, complained about the horrible tackling, and numerous dropped balls by both sides. As one Dragons fan noted, 'had we played any other team today including the Crusaders, we would have gotten creamed. If you ask me the boys still are not recovered from their injuries in the IRL [International Rugby League].' Another fan bashed both teams as he noted that, 'I gotta say it's pretty sad that Locke Harbour has two teams and both of them are as horrible as this sorry display of goofball rugby we got to watch today'. Both teams will need to improve upon their performance next week, especially the Blues who will be at home to face the 2-0 Stanislav Lions. Meanwhile in other league games from today: -In Pearson Cliffs, the Pirates took an early 18-0 lead and was able to coast to an easy 33-8 win over the Crusaders. -In Workers Point, the Lenita Legions survived a scare at the end, as the Bobcats and Legions rucked it out in the pouring rain until the final whistle which saw the Legions escape with a 15-14 victory. -In Stanislav, the Lions hit a dropkick with no time remaining to defeat the Viscount Bennett Imperialists 31-28. -In the city of Peace, the Athens Invaders continued their self-destruction on the field, losing a one-sided affair to the Peace Warriors 21-3. |
Tackling was virtually none existent on both sides of the pitch. |
