Three people died, including a 14 year old girl, as a blaze ravaged inside a high rise apartment building in the centre of the town of Onada. Firefighters spent over 5 hours battling the stubborn blaze. At one point your could see the flames kilometres away and 6 departments had to be called including one from Oceanedge (just north of Onada). ________________________________________ '...you could see the flames kilometres away...' -firefighter from Oceanedge who helped with the Onada blaze. ________________________________________ 'You could see the flames kilometres away. We were on the highway in Oceanedge and could see the flames southeast of us. As we got closer they just got larger, that was a bad one, I feel for the families of those who died'. The cause of death of the 3 had not been released as of this writing though most suspected it was smoke inhalation. 'The doors to the roof were bolted shut. They tried to escape but were blocked by the bolted doors, they should have stayed in their residences but either way those doors should not have locked. There will be charges', noted one officer at the scene. |
