The coach with the highest success percentage in the PRL was fired yesterday.  Andrew Martin, hired in the 2002 season, helped to turn around a floundering Dragons team into a powerhouse the last 2 seasons.  This season however he was seemingly unable to do anything to deal with the losing, and after the disgrace of a game put forward this past Sunday his firing was expected by many.

'About time', vented one fan outside of Championship Heaven Stadium.

General Manager Keith Wright called Mr. Martin into his office around 3pm yesterday.  After a 5 minute meeting Mr. Martin stormed out in anger.  Wright meanwhile had the team waiting in an adjacent room where for 3 hours after he verbally berated them for the previous game and their overall effort this season

'Yea he was furious, he basically told us that if we do not give 100% next game than we will be out of here', noted flanker Josh Papanelo.  'No one wants to leave the Dragons, we have a horrible record this season but we are the defending champions, and have the best history in the league, no one wants to leave so we have no choice to play better next game'.

Winger Mark Anderson was more direct in his response to the verbal lashing received by the team from Wright.  'If we do not play better next game he will kill us'.

After the 3 hour meeting with players Keith Wright talked briefly with reporters on numerous issues.  In regards to the firing of Martin he responded, 'Andrew has been with us for almost 3 seasons, in that time he has found ways to win.  This season however he has lost that desire to win it seems, he seemed content with 2 championships, our fans are not content with that and neither am I.  Locke Harbour is a city of champions, those not willing to continue to work for that will leave.'

It was later discovered that Owen Clarke had been stripped of his captaincy for the upcoming game this weekend.  As of this writing the team has yet to assign a permanent captain in his place.
