RUGBY MATCH OF THE DAY: PEARSON VS ATHENS

Can anyone stop Thompson?

Report by: Stephen O'Malley

Alex Thompson is not at the position you would suspect one would be scoring a flurry of tries from, and yet the 3rd year lock is leading the league after 3 awesome runs last week in Pearson's game verses Lenita.

'I doubt I will keep scoring at this pace, though hey who knows', stated Thompson about his record setting game.  Not since 2001 have you seen that many tries scored in one game from any player, let alone a lock.

'Definitely he is in our game plans' stated Athens coach Bob Andorf.  We are a backs team.  So as long as we play our game Thompson will not even touch the ball.

Coach Jason Mitchell of the Pearson Pirates was more direct about his chances verses the Athens Intruders, 'the fact that Athens is worried about our locks means they are not ready for us.  We are not just locks, our entire forward pack can and will beat them'.

Athens have started well themselves having beaten a strong Locke Harbour team last week.  The key today will no doubt be the play of Athens scrum half Nate Taylor.  'If he can get the ball to the backs, expect to see a blow out' noted sports reporter Natalie Rezziqula.
