Chapter 12
I was woken extremely early the next morning by Faye.
Time to get ready to go. She said, shaking me lightly.
I groaned and rolled over, tugging the covers over my head. I had a pounding headache and I totally didnt feel like getting up or doing anything.
Come on. Faye coaxed, getting up and opening the drapes. The early morning sunlight shined into the room and I managed to pry my eyes open the tiniest bit. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 5:00 AM.
I have the worst migraine. I complained to Faye.
Well we still have some Aleve in the bathroom. Faye said. That should help.
God...the one thing I hate about this business. I whined. You dont get sick days.
Thats right. You dont. Now get to it! Faye pulled the covers off me.
Where are we going first? I cant remember.
Radio interview.
So it doesnt matter what I wear?
You dont need to be dressed to the T, but you should be reasonably presentable since there may be photographers outside the studio.
Cool. I managed to get up out of bed and trudge to the bathroom where I downed three Aleve and two glasses of water.
Im going to go make you some coffee, and Ill order up some breakfast. Faye said, heading out of the room.
Just Cheerios for me please! I said to her retreating back. And no coffee, just a Red Bull.
Faye sighed. You need to eat more than that, and I dont like you drinking all those Red Bulls, theyve got WAY too much caffeine in them.
I dont want more than that, and I like the Red Bulls, they keep me up and awake.
Faye didnt push the argument. She left the room sighing audibly.
I dug through my suitcases, which I had not yet unpacked, searching for something to wear. After looking at nearly everything and throwing clothes all around the hotel room, I finally decided on some faded jeans and a black T with Merry and Pippin from Lord of the Rings on it (my favorite shirt, Id bought it at Hot Topic a year ago).
I slid my feet into my black flip-flops and headed into the main room of the suite. Ready! I shouted.
Faye came out of her room, looked me over, and gave me a big smile. You look great Kylie.
A knock sounded on the door just then. That must be breakfast. Faye said. Can you get it? I have to make sure I have everything that Ill need today. She went back into her room and I headed for the door.
I opened the door, but it wasnt the room service cart that I saw. It was Rupert!
Oh my gosh! I shrieked, flinging my arms around him. What are you doing here? I said, not loosening my hold one bit.
I wanted to stop by and say hi before work. Rupert said. He hugged me back and then kissed me a few times on the lips.
Thats so sweet of you! My day is going to be so much better now. I gushed.
Im glad. Rupert kissed me a few more times before letting go. I have to go now, but Ill see you at lunchtime.
Ok, bye...I cant wait to see you later!
Rupert left and I went back to my room with a huge smile on my face.
I searched around my room for my purse, and finally found it shoved in a drawer. How it got there I had no idea. I met Faye in the main room again and she pointed to the room service tray. You didnt eat. She said.
Didnt feel like it. I said. I grabbed the can of Red Bull and headed out the door. Faye followed behind me lecturing me about the importance of eating healthy breakfasts.
We arrived at the studio just a few minutes later. I stepped out of the car and was immediately hounded by reporters and photographers. I ignored the questions but stood posing for the cameras for a minute or so until Faye told me we had to go in. I walked very close to Rob as we made our way through the crowd. It was kind of scary, how everyone was trying to grab at me. Id never encountered that type of crowd before.
We got to the booth were we were going to be doing our segment, and a guy came to outline the session. Larry jumped in and told the guy to make sure no questions were asked about my personal life. I waved him off and talked to the guy myself. Questions about my personal life are okay. I told him. Just no questions about sex, cause those just arent appropriate.
Larry actually smiled at me when I said that. Good call. He said. Good call.
I grinned at Faye and felt totally empowered by this new allowance to say what I wanted.
Do these chairs have to be so uncomfortable? I complained when I sat down in my chair in front of the microphone. Immediately I was presented with a different one. I switched chairs and got mentally ready to give my interview.
The DJ did his little intro thing and then introduced me. After that he started the questions. So tell us about that press conference the other day... He said.
So horrible. I said. Wasnt expecting it to get so bad.
How do you get through it when interviews go wrong?
Say no comment a lot. I laughed.
Good strategy. So how long have you and Rupert been dating.
Not long, the relationship is still rather new. I think its been about three weeks or so...not sure exactly.
How did you guys meet?
We met at a caf in London. I cant remember all the details, but I know he asked to sit at my table, and I recognized him.
Did he know who you were?
Not until I said my name. Hed heard my music a few times, but hed never seen a picture of me or anything like that.
What did you guys do for your first date?
We went to a park by his house.
What made you stick around for a second date?
No comment. I said, grinning.
Okay...interesting. The DJ laughed.
Well thats all the time we have for now. The DJ announced, wrapping up the interview. Make sure to catch Kylies performance of her second single, Jealousy, on Top of the Pops tomorrow night. He put on the next song and I leaned back and yawned.
Where to next? I asked Faye who had just come into the room.
Photo shoot time. She said.
Whats the shoot for?
Its a magazine shoot.
Oh really? I perked up, the magazine photo shoots were always my favorite. Which one?
British Elle.
I raised my eyebrow. Whatever. Stop kidding. Which magazine?
Im not kidding, Kylie. Its British Elle.
But thats for fashion models and huge international superstars.
Well they called us and asked for you.
Oh my gosh. I shrieked. This is AMAZING. I cant believe Im going to be on the cover of British Elle!
Well wed better get going. Faye reminded. Or else you wont be.
I jumped from my chair, no longer feeling the sleepiness that Id been feeling just a few minutes ago.
Theyre going to do an interview for the article tomorrow. Faye said handing me the next days itinerary, which shed gotten the final draft of while Id been giving my radio interview. I looked it over and saw the 1:00 spot read BRITISH ELLE INTERVIEW. Its going to be one of those laid back interviews, where you go out shopping and then do some talking over lunch.
Cool. I said. I love those. Theyre always so much fun. Is it scheduled where well be shopping? Or is that up to me?
Its up to you. Make a decision by 3:00 today, okay?
Sure. I shrugged. Easy enough.
We pulled up to gorgeous mansion. Were taking the pictures here? I asked, sort of confused.
They wanted the photos for the spread to have a personal tone, so they wanted to have you in a house setting instead of just in front of a colored backdrop.
Oh...thatll be interesting.
Itll be fun. Now come on, lets go, were on a time schedule here.
We headed to the doors of the mansion, dodging a few photographers on the way there. A wardrobe person met me as soon as Id walked through the door. Ready to get glamorous? She asked.
Ready as Ill ever be. I said. The lady led me down two hallways to a room that had been set up as a dressing room/makeup room.
Hair and makeup first. She said, guiding me into the chair in front of the mirror. Teresa will be with you in a moment to fix you up.
Okay. I smiled sweetly.
Fix me up? I asked Faye, as soon as the wardrobe lady was gone. Do I look horrible or something?
No, of course not, but you dont look photo shoot glam.
Whatever. I sighed. I turned my attention to the clothes rack hanging on the other side of the room. Go see what kind of wardrobe theyve got. I told Faye.
Faye walked over to the rack and flipped through the clothes. A lot of casual bedtime stuff. She said. Sweatpants and tanks.
Very cool. Comfortable.
Also a bunch of flowing flirty dresses.
I love those. This should be lots of fun.
Faye came and sat down next to me. We have to discuss plans for the Goblet of Fire premiere.
Plans?
We have to go and get you a dress, you have to prepare yourself for the red carpet interviews. We have to hire a hairstylist and make-up artist for the event, and we have to get your transportation booked and reserve a hotel room.
Ugh...so much to do. I guess its worth it though.
Okay, so first thing I need you to do is find out about the flight that Rupert is taking, since Im supposing you want to go with him. Then you need to find out where hes staying, because I again am supposing that you want to stay in the same hotel.
Those are easy enough tasks. I paused. When can we go shopping for the dress?
I can schedule you appointments at a few places for tomorrow evening. That okay?
Sounds great....and what else is there to be done?
Interview preparation. Well spend some time talking about that before your performance tonight.
A tall woman with blonde hair entered the room and introduced herself as Teresa, the makeup artist. I shook her hand and smiled and then she got to work on my face. It took a half hour for the first look, which was the one to go with the dresses.
