| Name: Richard Wayne Ferguson Son of: Cecilia and Frederick Ferguson Born: 1961, in Saint John NB, Canada Click images above, for a larger view. Heritage: I was a mutt! My dad was an English speaking Protestant and came from Sussex. My mom was a French speaking Catholic and came from Sheila. My parents settled in Saint John, which is located in Southern New Brunswick. Although 1/2 of my family was French, I never mastered the language, because Saint John was predominantly English speaking. I attended the following schools: King Edward Elementary Prince Charles Junior High Saint John High NBCCSJ - Electronics Servicing and a short stint at UNBSJ, where I pocketed a few Calculus, Psychology and Computer Programming courses. Work history: I held jobs as a stock boy, dishwasher and worked at a sign shop, during and after high school. I worked at Canadian Tire as an auto-parts counter-boy while I attended college. After completing my electronics course, I managed to land a job with the local Cable-TV Company (Fundy Cable). 15 long years, working from the top of a ladder, repairing cables and I got my promotion to the NMC (Network Management Center). I had more than my fill of working outside in the hot summers and cold winters, so I really enjoyed my new job. Fundy Cable was sold in 2000 to Shaw Cable. Shaw took less than a week to put over 2/3 of Fundy's staff out of work. I was one of the unfortunate ones, who found myself facing unemployment. It was at this time, that a one-time opportunity opened for me in Ontario. Fundy's former owner had just started a new company (C1) in Mississauga and needed NMC staff. Without a seconds thought, I packed up the family and headed to Ontario. I worked for a year at C1 and then moved on, to my 3rd stint at an NMC, working for TELUS-Mobility. I am now, living in Brampton with my family: Wife - Christina Kids - Samantha Jeanne and Jennifer Rose and lots of pets. Notable moments in my life.............. The Anik satellite blackout of 1994 In late January 1994, 2 major communications satellites went for an unexpected walk. First Anik E1, then within hours E2. For the greater part of a day Cable-TV was effectively out across Canada. This was unprecedented in Canadian communications history. Never before did we have to deal with such a large loss of channels. The plan was brought forth to move services from E1 and make space on E2. This involved crews, running to all of our regional head-ends realigning dishes and retuning equipment. Not an easy task in the cold of January. We thought we had it mastered, when without warning, E2 went out. Fortunately Telesat had stabilized E1, but it meant starting over, moving dishes and retuning receivers back to their original settings. What an adventure. I was on the road 16 hours a day as the storm progressed, clearing downed lines.
