Jane Crawford (aka Auntie)

My family lived at 142 Britain Street in Saint John. Aunt Jane, Uncle Alvin, and my cousins Kathy and Christina lived in the flat above us. From the earliest days of my childhood I have known Aunt Jane as Auntie. Aside from being my real aunt, she was much more.
Growing up, it was as if we all lived together. Her door was always open and we would be greeted with a warm smile. It was like having two moms.

In 1985, I lost my mother suddenly (due to a heart attack). My family quickly spread apart. It was as if my mother was the glue bonding us together. My relationship with my Dad quickly cooled and my brothers and I seemed too busy with our own families and careers to see each other.

This is where Auntie played the biggest part in my life. Once again her door was open for me. Her home became a favorite gathering place.  I would delight as she told me stories of my mom as a young girl, their upbringing in Sheila, and stories about my parents before they married. It brought new life into the memories of my mom.

When my children were born, we visited often. I wanted to ensure that Sam and Jenny had a chance to enjoy Aunties warmth as I had for so many years. They never had a chance to know their grandmother....
but in some sense I think they did.

To Auntie from all of us,

youre the best!!!
