Break the Codes
Plug and Play in Windows 95/98 is great when it works, but can
be kind of puzzling when it doesn't. One mystery is what all
those problem codes mean in Device Manager. If you want a bit
more description about what you should do for a particular
error code, go to http://support.microsoft.com and look up
document Q125174.

End Those Win98 Install Hang-Ups
If you're trying to upgrade from Win95 to Win98 and your system
hangs up during hardware detection, check the [boot] section of
your SYSTEM.INI file for a line that says display.drv=pnp.drv.
If you see that line, get the fix described in document Q194721
at http://support.microsoft.com. Some video cards change the
display driver, which causes hardware detection to fail.

What's Updated, Doc?
Windows Update does a great job of keeping your Win98 setup
patched with the latest fixes, but sometimes you may want to
know what patches you've already installed. To find out, go to
the Product Updates section at Microsoft's Windows Update site
http://support.microsoft.com) and click on the Installation
History button.
