 Windows 98 Tip: Yes, I'm Sure! ... Page 1

 By Kate Botello

I'm giving you a tip today for dealing with one of my personal
pet peeves in Windows 98. Every time you try to delete a file, you get
a "nag" window, second-guessing you. "Are you sure you want to delete
the file? Are you really sure? Are you really really sure?"

Yes, for pete's sake, I'm sure! I admit that sometimes it's nice
to double-check. The recycle bin is a handy safety net for times you may
be a little overzealous. My advice to you is that if you turn off delete
confirmation, be extremely judicious with files you decide to get rid of.
Be sure. Be really really sure.

OK, all caveats aside, let's do this.

	*Right-click on the Recycle Bin.
	*Click "Properties"
*Make sure the box marked, "Display delete confirmation dialog box"
is NOT checked. Note: unchecking this box doesn't
necessarily remove the delete confirmation. If it doesn't,
		 proceed to step four.
*Turn on the option, "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin".
THIS WILL IMMEDIATELY NUKE FILES WHEN YOU DELETE THEM.
Any files that you do have in the Recycle Bin before
you've done this will remain there until you empty
		 it manually.

You can also add a shortcut to the Recycle Bin to your "Send to"
Menu, so you can delete files by right-clicking, with your safety
 net intact.

Again, I'll remind you take it easy on the delete key. Unless,

of course, you're really, really sure.
