*1. Jilt Java

If slow-loading Java applets interrupt your Web
browsing, turn off Java support. Select
View/Internet Options/Security; click on the
Custom radio button, then on the Settings button.
Select the Disable Java option.

*2. Yet Another Way to Save

If you're like most IE users, you probably maximize
your browsing space by hiding various toolbars, enabling
small icons or turning off text labels. To save even more
space, hide the Address bar (right-click on it and deselect
it from the Context menu)-then simply hit Ctrl+O to access
the Open dialog whenever you need to enter a URL.

*3. Roving Favorites

You can change the location of your Favorites folder
by editing the Registry. Launch RegEdit from the Run
command line and go to these two entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion \Explorer\User Shell Folders and, in the
same tree, Shell Folders. In each, set the Favorites value to the
path of your new Favorites folder. You must use a double slash
instead of a single slash when entering the path
 (for example, C:\\MYNEWFAV).

*4. Clean Up AutoComplete

Remove the URLs that IE remembers for its AutoComplete
feature by launching RegEdit and going to
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft
\InternetExplorer\TypedURLs. Delete any unwanted URLs.

*5. Disk-Space Savings

Make sure IE is using a minimum amount of disk space when
caching Internet files. First, select View/Internet Options
and click on the Delete Files button under the Temporary
Internet Files section to clear your current cache. Then,
click on the Settings button and make sure the "Amount of
disk space to use" option is set to 1%.

*6. Content Police (for IE4 and IE5)

To control who sees what on your browser, go to
View/Internet Options (Tools/Internet Options for IE 5)
and open the Content ab. Then click on Enable under
Content Advisor. You'll be prompted to create a
supervisor password and define sensitivity settings for
offensive content types.

*7. Home in a Flash

IE 4.0 lets you set your browser's home page (start page)
via the View/Internet Options dialog box, but a faster way
is to grab the icon from the address bar of the site you
want and drag it to the Home button on the navigation bar.
A dialog box will pop up and ask you to confirm the change.

*8. Come Together

Need to convert Favorites/Bookmarks back and forth between
IE and Navigator? Microsoft's free FavTool utility
(http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/favtool/favtool.asp)
lets you do just that.

*9. A Shorter History

Save disk space by reducing the number of days IE saves
pages in your History list. The fewer days you specify,
the less space your system uses. Access the History list
settings under Tools/Internet Options.

*10. Jilt Java

If slow-loading Java applets interrupt your Web
browsing, turn off Java support. Select
View/Internet Options/Security (Tools/Internet Options/
Security for IE 5.); click on the Custom radio button, then
on the Settings button. Select the Disable Java option.
