*1. A MICROSOFT GRAPHICS PAGE

We recently published a tip in response to reader Jane F.'s
question about Microsoft sites that contain graphics for use
in Web pages. As reader Nick I. points out, we missed an
 important site. We suggested

http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp

and forgot to mention the Microsoft Clip Gallery Live site at

http://cgl.microsoft.com/clipgallerylive/

Thanks for pointing out the oversight, Nick. As you say, there
is a considerable amount of clip art available at this site.

*12. OPENING A WEB PAGE IN A NEW WINDOW

Here is a Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 question from
 reader Paddy V.:

"Whenever I select a URL from my Favorites, it loads in the
current browser window. This is annoying when one is threading
through information. If I don't want to lose my current window,
I have to duplicate it and only select a new URL from my
Favorites. Is there a way to force a new window?"

Although you can open a link in a new window by holding down
Shift while you click the link, this technique doesn't work
with URLs in the Favorites folder.

One trick is to make a shortcut to your Favorites folder on the
Quick Launch toolbar. You can hold down Shift to open a UR
L in a new window.

If you decide to use this method, be careful how you use the
Shift key. The best approach is to click the URL once, then
press Shift and double-click. Good luck!

*3. MOVING BETWEEN FRAMES IN MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 4

This browser question is from reader Sara B.:

"Is there an easy way to move between frames in Internet
Explorer 4? I mean other than using the mouse to click
 in a new frame."

There sure is--you can move to the next frame by pressing
Ctrl-Tab. If you keep pressing Ctrl-Tab, it will move you
through all the frames and then select the Address bar
 and the Links bar.

*4. COPYING AN OUTLOOK EXPRESS MESSAGE

Here is an Outlook Express question from reader Barry L.:

"I usually copy my mail messages by selecting the message and
choosing Edit, Copy. Recently, I received a message that
contained some pictures (the message was in HTML format). I
wanted to copy the pictures, but all I got was the text. What
do I have to do copy pictures from Outlook Express?"

You can copy a picture in an OE message the same way you do in
Internet Explorer 4--right-click the picture and choose Save
Picture As. Just find a location for the picture and give it
 a name, then click Save.

*5. ADD VIDEO TO YOUR WEB PAGE WITH FRONTPAGE EXPRESS

Here is a FrontPage Express question from reader Geo B.:

"I recently decided to create my own Web page using FrontPage
Express. My question is: Is it possible to use a video in a Web
page? I have several video (AVI) files that I would like to use.
Will they run correctly when placed on a Web page?"

They should run just fine. To add a video to the Web page using
FrontPage Express, choose Insert, Video. When the Video dialog
box opens, click Browse to locate and select your video. If you
know exactly where your video is located, you can simply type it
in the text box. If you do this, make sure you enter the entire
 path and file name:

c:\MyVideos\myvideo.avi

After you choose a video, click OK to close the dialog box and
apply your selection. Before you save the Web page, you need to
decide how you want the video to play.

Begin by right-clicking the image and choosing Image Properties.
When the Image Properties dialog box opens, click the Video tab
(if necessary) and then enter the number of times you want the
movie to play after someone opens the page. If your video is a
cinematic masterpiece and you want it to continually loop,
 select the Forever check box.

After you make all your choices, click OK to close the dialog
box and save your settings. Now, you can save the page and
check it out in Internet Explorer 4.

Picture As. Just find a location for the picture and give it a
 name, then click Save.

*7. ADDING A MOVE TO BUTTON TO THE OUTLOOK EXPRESS TOOLBAR

This Outlook Express tip was submitted by reader Ellen W.:

"I use the Move To command rather frequently, so I decided to put
a Move To button on the Outlook Express toolbar. To do this, you
right-click the toolbar and choose Buttons. When the Customize
Toolbar dialog box opens, scroll down in the Available Buttons
 list and click Move To.

"Next, click Add, and the button will appear in the Toolbar
Buttons list. All you have to do now is click Close in the
dialog box. Your new button will appear in the toolbar."

Thanks for the tip, Ellen. We should note that you use this
method to add or remove any of the toolbar buttons.

*8. LOCATING A FREE FTP PROGRAM

Here is a request from reader Lori F.:

"A few months ago, I saw someone using an FTP program that was
supposedly free for education professionals. I am a
middle-school teacher and need a good FTP program to use in
class. Do you have any idea which program is free to teachers?"

One that comes to mind is WS_FTP Limited Edition. This is a very
good FTP program, and it is free for noncommercial users.
 You can download it at

http://www.pcworld.com/r/tw/1%2C2061%2Ctw-msie40812%2C00.html

Good luck!

*9. CHECK YOUR SPELLING IN OUTLOOK EXPRESS

This question was sent in by reader Larry G.:

"I was under the impression that Outlook Express would check my
spelling. But a few days ago, I sent a message that contained
several spelling errors. What happened to the spelling checker?"

The spelling checker isn't turned on by default. To turn it on,
run Outlook Express and choose Tools, Options. When the Options
dialog box opens, click the Spelling tab and then select the
Always Check Spelling Before Sending check box. Click OK to
close the dialog box and save your settings.

*10. MAKE FRONTPAGE EXPRESS YOUR DEFAULT HTML EDITOR

Here is a question that appears often--how do you make FrontPage
Express the default editor for HTML files? We have had several
of these requests recently, so let's take a look.

To change your default HTML editor, you have to tell Windows
95/98 what you want to do. So, open My Computer and choose View,
Folder Options. When the Folder Options dialog box opens, click
the File Types tab and locate HyperText Template in the
Registered File Types list box. Select it and then click Edit.
Next, click New and type in the Action text box

edit

Press Tab to move to the Application Used To Perform Action text
box and type (with the quotation marks)

"c:\Program Files\FrontPage Express\Bin\fpxpress.exe"

Note: This is the default location for this file--if you used a
different location, click Browse, locate Fpxpress.exe, and
select it. Now, click OK to close the dialog box and save your
settings. Back in the Edit File Type dialog box, click Close.
Then, in the Folder Options dialog box, click Close again.

To check out your new setting, right-click an HTML file and
choose Edit. FrontPage Express should open with the file loaded.
