Chapter 19

As Erica stormed out the door, I heard Keely's voice call out to her. She walked down the hall and looked surprised to see me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I was just going to ask you that." Keely laughed. She leaned over and kissed me softly on the lips and I was almost afraid she'd somehow know last night someone else's lips were touching mine.

"What's with Erica?" Keely asked.
"I'm not sure, but I'll take a wild guess and say it has something to do with Nick and Trista." I said and Keely's eyes widened.
"Ohhh..." She said.
"Not good." She laughed before sitting across from me where Mac was sitting.
"So what happened to you last night?" Keely asked.
"Oh, I fell asleep here. I'm sorry. I know we were supposed to talk." I said feeling completely guilty.

"Yeah. Your Mom called me at like two am wondering where you were." Keely began.
"Shit. Did she sound mad?" I asked.
"I told her you called me from Nick's hotel and you were just going to sleep there." Keely said and I smiled gratefully.
"Thanks." Wait, how did Mom get Keely's number? Let me guess...they exchanged e-mail addresses too?

"So about last night..." Keely began and I froze.
"What about last night?" I asked nervously. Keely looked at me strangely and Mac came in.
"Hey Keels!" Mac said hugging her.
"Sit. Join us." Keely said and Mackenzie sat next to me, but we couldn't even look at each other. This was just awkward. I needed to talk to both of them, but not while the other one was there.
"So how was the date last night?" Keely asked. Mac sighed.
"Not that good."
"Aww, I'm sorry Mac, what happened?"

"She was molested by my ex-backup dancer." I said and Keely's eyes widened.
"Ugh...are you okay?" Keely asked.
"Yeah...he hurt my boob." She said rubbing it softly.
"What a creep...did you punch him?" Keely asked somewhat angered.
"Aaron did." Mac said not looking at me. I couldn't say I looked at her much either.
"Good." Keely smiled and she just looked between us for a few minutes.

Trista came out of the bedroom and let out a big sigh.
"Hey Keel." She said patting Keely's head. She sat down in front of a plate of pancakes and we all just looked at her.
"Are you okay?" Mac asked. Trista shrugged.
"I need to talk to Erica."

Nick came walking in, looking annoyed, upset...just not happy.
"Aaron, let's go." Nick said like I was his dog or something.
"Dude, I'm in the middle of breakfast." I complained.
"Mom called me. She thinks we're at my hotel. She said she'll be there in an hour." Nick sighed. God, would she get off my back?

"Tris, I'm sorry I can't finish." I said getting up from the table.
"It was delicious though." I said kissing her cheek. She smiled and glanced up at Nick before looking down again.
"See you guys." Nick said before walking out. I looked between Mac and Keely.
"Um, Keely...I'll call you later, okay?" I asked. She nodded and I went to hug her goodbye, but she kissed my lips lightly. Shit. I looked up and noticed Mac look down quickly. I went over to her.
"I'll see you later." I said and Mac looked up and we hugged briefly before I left. As soon as Nick and I walked outside, he started cursing like a mad man.

"Dude, calm down."
"Aaron, Trista hardly wants to be friends with me and Erica hates my guts! And Mike wants to crack my head open!" Nick yelled.
"Trista and you had nothing anyway." I sighed.
"That's where you're wrong bro. Last night, she may have teased me, but I knew--"
"Wait, what exactly did happen between you two?" I asked.

"We made out forever and played heavy touchy feely and right when she knew I couldn't take anymore, she says she's going to change into something more comfortable." Nick started telling the story and my eyebrows raised.
"What did she come back wearing?" I asked. Nick sighed.
"What she was wearing this morning." I narrowed my eyes.
"A sweater and pajama pants?" I asked. Nick nodded and I just laughed.
"Then she gets into bed and goes to sleep on me. So I'm left there with this huge ass boner. I was so pissed." Nick groaned as I just cracked up.

"You asked for it man." I said shaking my head at him.
"Yeah, well this morning she climbed on top of me to wake me up and that's when Erica came busting in. And now I'm screwed." Nick said throwing his hands up.
"Nick, it's a lesson learned." I said patting his back.
"But you don't get it, I like Trista." I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, we all like Trista. She's hot, but she's just out of your reach now."
"No Aaron, I mean I really like her. I don't know...when I'm with her, I just...I feel something different. I've never felt it with anyone before." Nick said like he was looking out into the sky or some shit. He has got to be kidding me.

"Yeah, dude. Okay." I shrugged it off.
"You wouldn't know. You feel the same thing for every girl you see." Nick said. I looked over at him.
"I do not."
"Do too."
"Not."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yeah."
"Shut up Nick." I finally said pushing him. He just laughed as we got in the car.

I sat at the table running my fork through the syrup on my plate. We were all quiet. I knew why I was quiet. I knew why Trista was, but why was Keely? I looked up at her and she was looking at me.
"What?" I asked.
"You're so quiet." She said.
"So are you."
"Only because you are." Keely said and I laughed.

"Did you and Aaron sleep on the couch?" Keely asked looking at the blanket laying on the couch. I nodded. Please tell me she couldn't tell. Was I just paranoid or did it seem like I had "I just kissed Aaron Carter!" written on my forehead?
"So how was dinner with Jane last night?" I asked. Keely smiled.
"It was so cool! She was really nice to me and she wants to help me with my acting!" Keely giggled in delight.

"Wow, just be careful with her." I warned. Keely nodded.
"But that's great." I said with a smile.
"Yeah, that is cool." Trista managed to say something.
"I'm worried though." Keely sighed.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because this is getting out of hand. I had to lie to Jane about Aaron and me. Now it's like we're forced into this relationship and honestly, it scares the living crap out of me." Keely panicked. She was always afraid of commitment.

"So just let Aaron know where you stand." Trista said. I nodded.
"I've been trying, but we're never alone to talk and I'm afraid once we are alone, talking will be the furthest thing from our minds." She said with a half smile. Ugh...please I just ate. I just laughed lightly like I was amused. I looked over at Trista and my heart wrenched. You could see the pain on her face.
"You going to call Erica?" I asked. Trista shrugged.
"She won't talk to me."
"Tris, she'll get over it." Keely said.
"No, she won't." Trista said. She probably wouldn't either.

"Well, tell her the truth."
"The truth hurts the most Mac." Trista sighed.
"No, I mean about how it was all just a big tease to get back at Nick." I explained.
"I could pass it off as that, but that wouldn't make up for the fact that I do like him and I probably would wind up dating him." Trista said getting up and putting her dish in the sink.

I looked back at Keely.
"Oh the drama." I said and she nodded.
"Well, I have to go call my mother-in-law about the video shoot." Keely sighed and I laughed.
"Ooh, you know what tomorrow is?" I asked. Keely thought for a moment.
"Monday?"
"Yeah...it's Spotlight tour info time!" I said excited.
"Oooh!" Keely laughed.
"I can't wait...our first tour!" I said.
"Yeah, let me know the details tomorrow. I have to go." Keely said and I nodded before hugging her.
"Tell Trista I said goodbye." Keely said. I nodded before she left.

I couldn't wait for the Spotlight tour! Sure, we've done concerts before, but this was an entire three-month tour. Aaron was excited to be apart of it and I was surprised Nick was so eager to do it when I mentioned it to him. I couldn't wait. It's always been my dream to go on tour with some musician one day and now I get to be with a ton of them, including my favorite ones. On top of that, I get to do it with my best friends.

Despite my brief distraction, my mind drifted back to last night's kiss. I needed to talk to Aaron. I didn't want us to be weird about it. It was a perfect moment, so why should we let it ruin our friendship?

I got in the shower and I couldn't help but to smile. I don't know what it was. I felt like I had just gotten my first kiss...in a way, it kind of was my first. It wasn't even just the kiss that made me smile; it was the warm gesture behind it. Aaron didn't do it out of lust. He did it out of friendship and to make me feel something I never have. I knew I couldn't tell Trista or anyone else though. They would just accuse me of crushing on Aaron. It wasn't like that.

Chapter 20

Once I got out of the shower, I got dressed and tossed my hair up in a claw clip. I walked into Trista's room and sat on her bed. She just laid there kicking her feet back and forth as she listened to music.
"Trista, Erica will talk to you again." I sighed. She looked up and shrugged.
"I don't want to talk about it anymore." Trista said and I nodded.
"Let's go shopping." I suggested. She smiled and got off the bed.
"Sounds good to me." Trista said pushing her worries aside.

We got to the mall and began going in and out of various stores before we decided to sit in the food court and have some Wendy's. I dipped my fry into my frosty and Trista rolled her eyes.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were pregnant with all your weird combinations." I laughed and bit into the fry.
"It tastes good and you know it." I argued. She shrugged.
"It's okay."

"You know, the tour information's coming tomorrow." I reminded Trista.
"Oh yeah."
"So you're going to be in charge for a month until Rachel can come in from Toronto to take over. Then you'll get to join us." I reminded her. Trista smiled and nodded.
"This will be fun. Just what I need to get away...oh wait!" Trista shouted.
"What?" I asked.
"Nick and Erica will be on the tour too!" She said.
"Oh man, I completely forgot about that! Great, now what do I do? I can't just kick anyone off." I sighed.
"I just won't come." Trista said.
"That's not an option. Reese is getting married and won't be able to take pictures for us, plus I'll need you to help relieve some of the stress from me by that point." I said with a laugh. Trista blew out some air.
"Fine."

We were silent as we finished up our lunch and my little secret was starting to eat away at me. I could never keep anything to myself. I'm actually happy I kept in my sexual experience from Aaron as long as I did.
"Trista?"
"What?"
"Is Nick a good kisser?" I asked and she rolled her eyes before smiling slightly.
"Amazing. It was so hard for me to resist him. Each kiss was just...perfect." She finished with a smile. I smirked.
"Brother like brother." I said just loud enough for her to hear. I quickly looked down and I felt a fry hit my forehead. I laughed and looked up.
"What did you just say?" She asked.

"Brother like brother?" I said with an innocent smile.
"Mackenzie Ann Wiley! What is that supposed to mean?" Trista asked with a shocked expression.
"Aaron and I kissed." I said softly, but my cheeks burned with embarrassment.
"Oh...my...God! When was this and why didn't you tell me?" Trista exclaimed.
"Last night and I didn't want you to think the wrong thing." I shrugged.
"What that you have the hots for him?" She laughed.
"Basically, yeah." I giggled.
"You do."
"I don't."
"Do."
"Don't."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes, you do."
"No, I don't. Trista, stop!"
"No, I won't." She said and we just laughed.

"So tell me details." Trista insisted.
"We were talking about kissing and how Aaron thought it was important and I said I wouldn't really know because I never had a good kiss and I think that annoyed him. It was like against the law in his book. So before I knew it, he was leaning in and I just went with it." I explained.
"You liked it?" She asked.
"Like does not even come close to this kiss. I mean it was...I can't even explain it." I said and Trista smiled at me.
"So you going to do it again and again and again?" She asked. I shook my head.
"No. It was a one-time thing. It was special. It was a friendship kiss and that's that." I said and Trista smirked.

"A friendship kiss? Mackenzie, please."
"Trista, that's all. It didn't lead to more or anything like that. Just a sweet kiss."
"Where did his hands go?" She asked. I looked at her funny before answering.
"One hand was on the top of the couch and the other one was on the back of my neck."
"Mmm-hmm...did his hands move at all?" She asked.
"His one hand moved to my cheek."
"There you go." Trista said and I just stared at her blankly.
"There what goes?" I asked.

"The caressing of the cheek is a dead giveaway." Trista said.
"For what?" I asked with a laugh.
"That he cares about you."
"Duh, we're friends. Of course he does."
"No, he really cares about you." Trista said.
"Whatever." I laughed.

"He thinks you're sexy...he wants to date you..." Trista sang. She was obsessed with that line from Miss Congeniality and it drove me crazy.
"Stop." I laughed.
"See this is why I didn't want to tell you."
"Okay, I'm sorry. You're right. You and Aaron are friends..." Trista said and I smiled out of satisfaction.
"Who stick their tongues down each other's throats." She finished and I shook my head at her.

"Oh Trista, you can't tell Keely though!" I said almost forgetting about that.
"Mac, she slept with the kid...I don't think she cares if you shared an innocent kiss." Trista said with a wink as she said innocent.
"Well, still. It's not right and you know it. I'm not going to risk losing Keely as a friend."
"Oh like I did with Erica?" Trista asked.
"That wasn't your fault, Tris." I said.
"I feel guilty."
"I know you do." I felt bad for Trista. I just wish this whole mess would pan out, but I don't think that was going to happen anytime soon.

My cell phone rang and I looked at the caller ID.
"Speak of the devil." I said showing Trista the phone.
"Hello?"
"Mac, hey."
"Hi, are you okay?" I asked.
"No, why would I be?" Erica said. She sounded pretty broken up.
"Is Trista there with you?"
"Yeah. You want to talk--"
"No. I want to talk to you. Can you come over later?" Erica asked.
"Yeah. Is six okay?" I asked.
"Sure. I'll see you then."
"Okay, bye Erica."
"Oh Mac?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry." Erica said. I sighed.
"It's okay." We said goodbye and I hung up.

Trista sighed.
"So now she's talking to you and not me?" She asked.
"Pretty much."
"You forgive her too easily." Trista accused and I just nodded in agreement.
"I hate fighting. You know that." I said standing up and grabbing my purse and my bags.

I sat in my hotel room with Mike by my side. We played videogames and once Mike died for about the tenth time, I turned the game off.
"So Nick really messed things up with Trista?" Mike asked.
"Oh yeah."
"Good." Mike said. Here we go.
"Mike, stop. He's your best friend." I reminded him.
"He deserves it Aaron."
"Maybe so, but you know Erica's not little Miss Perfect either." I said with a sigh.

"What do you know?"
"She had sex too you know? She could have stopped it. Erica's the one who mistook sex for love." I said.
"Where are you getting this shit from?" Mike asked. I thought for a moment. I was talking like Mac or something. I just shrugged.
"So I'm guessing you don't like Erica?" Mike asked.
"She's okay. She puts Mackenzie through crap though."

"That's why you're putting her down. You're defending your Sugar Mama." Mike said. I just laughed.
"My Sugar Mama?"
"You can't tell me that girl doesn't give you any." He said. I smacked his arm.
"I'm telling you...she doesn't." I said.

Now I could use this opportunity to lie and say I was hitting it, but I knew I'd get lectured about Mac being too old and it's dangerous because of all this other shit. Who knew anymore what the reasons were.
"Good. She's too old for you anyway." Mike said. See what I mean? Whatever. If people can't believe that Mackenzie and I can just be friends, then they don't. Let their imaginations have fun for all I care. My cell phone rang and I groaned.
"Is that your new bitch?" Mike asked. I looked at the caller ID and saw it was Keely.
"She's not my bitch." I said before picking the phone up.

"Hey." I said softly.
"Hey. Are you coming over?" Keely asked.
"Yeah, I'll be right there." I said.
"I mean to talk Aaron." She said a little too girlfriend like.
"I know." I said, but I knew we'd end up doing more than talking. We said goodbye and a few minutes later, I made my way over to Keely's apartment.

Keely opened the door wearing a short tank top and pajama pants. I suddenly didn't want to talk anymore. I pulled her against me and kissed her. She responded by wrapping her arms around my neck. I pulled her tank top over her head and let my hands roam her body before she undressed me. We got on the bed and just as I was kissing down her body and I was getting hungrier, she stopped me.
"Aaron, wait..."
"Keely, I can't. I want you." I said softly blowing on her belly button. She moaned a little and I continued my kissing.
"Aaron, not now." She said sitting up.
"Baby, I want you now."

"No. We need to talk." Keely said. I sighed. Yes, we both knew we needed to talk, but I knew I needed something else right now.
"After Keely, I promise." I said pulling her pants down. She pushed me away.
"Dammit Aaron." She sighed.
"Fine, talk already!" I yelled.
"Just get out." She said.
"What? No, we're going to talk." I demanded.
"No, call me when you're through being a jackass." Keely said throwing my shirt at me. I groaned.
"Fine! Why don't you just call my mother and tell her the wedding's off?" I yelled before storming out of her apartment.

I got in the car and drove away. I just kept driving until I wound up at the only place I knew I would. I knocked on the door and she answered.
"Hey, come in." She said and I followed her into the living room. We just stood there, not saying anything.
"We need to talk." We both said at the same time. We both nodded.
"Mac, I'm sorry if I crossed a line last night." I began.
"It was fine...really." She said. Fine. That wasn't a good word to use to describe that kiss.

"Just fine? I thought it was pretty damn good." I laughed. Mac smiled and blushed.
"Yeah, you're right it was. I meant you didn't cross a line. I was happy you did it." She said and I smiled.
"Good because I was happy I did it too." I said and our eyes locked.
"This doesn't change anything." Mackenzie said. I nodded just as the phone started ringing.
"Not at all." I said and before I knew it, we were leaning in for what would be yet another incredible kiss.

Our lips met in a closed mouth kiss and the phone kept ringing. I guess Trista wasn't around. I didn't care about the stupid phone though. My hotel could have been on fire right now and I don't think I'd care. I wrapped my arms around Mac's waist and she took control this time and deepened the kiss. Our tongues began a slow massage as the answering machine was saying some gibberish in the background.

That's when I heard the voice.
"Mac? Trista? Are you guys there?" Keely asked. Mac pulled away, but I still had her in my arms.
"I just got into a fight with Aaron. This thing with him has gone too far. All we have is sex. I think that even was why we fought. I wanted to talk instead tonight." Keely explained. Damn girls. Can't they keep anything to themselves?

Mac looked over at me and pulled away.
"Mac..." I began.
"Maybe you should just leave."
"No, I don't--" I began.
"Aaron, go. I was supposed to be at Erica's place a half an hour ago anyway."
"She can wait. I want to--"
"Go. I don't like what I'm thinking about you right now, so please just go." Mac said folding her arms. I nodded and left. Fuck. I went back to the hotel and stayed there for the rest of the night, wondering if I should call Keely or Mac first.

Chapter 21

I walked down the street to the subway and swiped my metro card through. Once I got on the train, I leaned my head back and sighed. What the hell was going on? I didn't want Aaron's kisses to become a habit of mine and I didn't want Keely to somehow get hurt because of whatever Aaron and I were doing.

That wasn't even what was really bothering my brain. Why did Aaron come over tonight? He was supposed to be at Keely's...telling her he didn't want more. Obviously that didn't go as planned, but I don't appreciate feeling like he came to me just because he had to get it from somewhere.

My head started to hurt and what was worse was it was about to hurt even more. I got off the train and walked up a block until I got to Erica's apartment building. I rang the doorbell and she opened the door.

"I was worried something happened to you." Erica said without a hello offered.
I walked inside her apartment and we sat down in the living room. I really didn't have much to say at this point.
"Look, I'm sorry I took out a lot of stuff on you." Erica said. I nodded.
"You really upset me."
"I know. I'm sorry Mac." I just stayed silent.

"So what's new with you?" She asked. I shrugged.
"Just hanging out and tomorrow I should have all the Spotlight tour information." I smiled remembering that I was looking forward to it.
"Oh awesome! This is exactly what I need to lift my spirits!" Erica said excited. I smiled. I guess she forgot who would be there. Suddenly, she began crying.
"I can't believe Trista, Mac. How could she do that to me?" Erica sobbed. I put my arm around her.
"Ric, Trista didn't do it on purpose. When she made the date with Nick, she didn't know about you two." I sighed.

"She still went on the date afterwards though." Erica sniffled.
"Erica, she likes him."
"Mac, I love him." Erica said achingly. Oh God. I somehow don't believe that.
"Don't confuse love with adoration." I said.
"I'm not. You weren't there. You didn't see the way he looked at me, Mac. There was more in his eyes." Erica said trying to convince me.
"Erica, trust me. I saw what was in his eyes last night. He's all about Trista."

"Why do you want to hurt me?" Erica asked.
"Sweetie, I don't. Believe me, I wish it were that simple for you to like Nick and he likes you back, but he's hurting right now over Trista."
"I don't really care if he's hurting over her. What the hell did she do poison his food?"
"She won't see him anymore because of you."
"Mac, I'm not just going to be best friends with her again because she dumped Nick." Erica sighed.
"I know, but I think you should open your eyes a little before throwing away a friendship." I said standing up.

"You're leaving?" Erica asked. I groaned to myself.
"I'm tired. I have work tomorrow." I explained.
"Why don't you sleep here?"
"Ric, I don't have my clothes or my bag..."
"I could use a friend. I seem to be losing them lately." Erica laid a guilt trip on me.
"How about I stay for a little while longer?" I suggested. She smiled and nodded. I really just wanted to be at home and talk to Trista about what happened with Aaron and maybe even call Keely and make sure everything was okay. My cell phone rang about three times while I was at Erica's.

"Mac, who the hell keeps calling you?" She asked. I picked up the phone and saw Aaron's number twice and Keely's once. I shrugged and there was a knock at the door. Erica answered it and I heard two male voices. I stood up to go see who it was and I was surprised to find Mike and Aaron standing there.
"Hey Mac." Mike said with a wave.
"Hi Mike." I said and then I looked at Aaron. Mike walked in with Erica, but Aaron just stayed by the door.

"Aaron, are you coming in?" Erica asked.
"No, I was just dropping Mike off so I could have the car. Mac, will you take a drive with me?" Aaron asked. I looked back at Erica.
"I'll talk to you later." She said hugging me. I said goodbye to Mike and walked with Aaron outside.
"Thanks for coming with me." Aaron said softly.
"Did you apologize to Keely?" I asked.
"Not yet. I left her a message, but I needed to talk to you first anyway." Aaron said and I looked over at him.
"Talk. I'm listening."

"I'm not trying to hurt Keely just so you know. Sometimes my hormones take over and it's easier for her to just stop hers, but once I get going..." Aaron started to explain and I put my hand up.
"I get the picture, Aaron."
"So is that what tonight was about?" I asked.
"What?"
"Hormones? You couldn't get it from Keely, so you decided to see if you can get something from me?" I asked and just the look on Aaron's face said it all.

"No! I had no idea what was going to happen when I came to see you. I came to you because I wanted to talk about last night and make sure we were still cool." Aaron assured me. We continued walking and made it to the car. We both got in and just sat there.
"I'm ending it with Keely." Aaron said.
"Are you sure?" I asked. Aaron nodded.

"I don't think it's going to work this way."
"Maybe try it a different way." I said.
"What? Like me and Keely actually become what my Mom thinks we are?" I shrugged. What was I doing? That's the last thing I wanted to happen.
"No, Keely and I...we don't have that kind of chemistry." Aaron said and I let out a breath of air.

"When you end it, you might want to do it over the phone." I joked. Aaron laughed and pushed me lightly.
"So what now?" I asked.
"I take you home." Aaron said looking into my eyes.
"And what if I don't want to go home?" What I was implying, I didn't even know.
"I don't know, depends on where you'd want to go then." I thought about this for a minute. I was standing on this line. If I went to one side, I'd be safe. If I stepped to the other side, who knows what could happen. I'll be safe.
"Maybe I should go home after all."
"Maybe it's for the best." Aaron nodded.

Once we pulled up to my apartment, Aaron turned the engine off and we sat there. I looked over at Aaron. He looked in such deep thought. I put my hand on his shoulder and smiled.
"Come here." I said softly. Aaron moved closer and I kissed his lips very softly.
"I'll always remember your kiss as my first." I said and Aaron smiled.
"I'll always remembers yours as my best." He said kissing my lips lightly again.
"I'll see you later." I said getting out of the car. I walked upstairs and once I got in the apartment, I was surprised to see Nick and Trista talking.

"Hi." I said surprised.
"Hi. I just came to say goodbye." Nick said.
"You're leaving tomorrow?" I asked. He nodded.
"Okay, I'm getting the tour info tomorrow, so I'll send your manager all the itinerary."
"Thanks. Bye Mackenzie." Nick said and I hugged him.
"Bye. Be good." I said and he laughed.
"I'll see you in a few weeks." Nick said and I nodded. I decided to go to my room and leave Nick and Trista to their own private goodbye.

After I dropped Mac off, I drove to Keely's place. I took a deep breath before getting out of the car. I knocked on the door and Keely answered it with tears in her eyes. Shit. I'm an asshole.
"Keely..."
"What do you want?" She asked coldly.
"Please, can I come in?" I asked.
"Aaron, I'm not in the mood to--"
"No, it's not like that. We need to talk." She sighed and walked away from the door. I walked in and closed the door behind me before following her into the living room. Some lifetime movie was on. She wiped her tears and sat down next to me.

"I'm sorry I made you cry." I said. I couldn't take seeing girls cry. Keely snickered slightly.
"You didn't. It was the movie I was watching." She said. I laughed lightly. Silence filled the room.
"Keely, I like you. I think you're really cool." I said feeling like I was in elementary school. She smiled.
"The feeling's mutual." Keely said.
"But..." We both started then laughed.
"You go first." I said.

"Aaron, I think I gave you the wrong impression. I don't want the kind of relationship you're looking for." Keely began and I nodded.
"You want too much too soon." She continued. Too much...sex? I guess she couldn't handle it all so soon. She seemed like she could. Girls are so confusing. I never can tell what they're feeling.
"I'm sorry I can't give you something steady." I said feeling bad. Keely narrowed her eyes.

"Are you listening to me?" Keely asked.
"Yeah..."
"Aaron, I don't want a relationship." Keely sighed.
"You don't?"
"No, I'm sorry, but I just wanted to have fun." Oh my freaking God! Is she for real?
"So you're saying you just want to have a physical relationship and that's it?" I asked. I had to make sure I was hearing this right.

"Yes, I feel bad after meeting your Mom. I'm sorry if I led you on Aaron." Keely continued. I had to laugh. Keely looked at me funny.
"You didn't. Keely, all I want is sex from you. As sleazy as it sounds, I wasn't planning on anything more." I said and Keely smiled and let out a laugh.
"I was under the impression that you wanted more." She said.
"I thought you wanted more." We laughed again.
"I was going to break it off with you completely." Keely said.
"Me too."
"I wonder how things got so messed up?" Keely asked. I thought for a minute and so did Keely. We both looked at each other.

"Mackenzie!" We both came to the conclusion.
"Her and her high moral standards." I joked. Keely nodded in agreement.
"So what do we do now?" I asked.
"Well, since we both know where the other stands..." Keely said running her hand down my chest. Oh yes, there is a God and he is definitely a man. I pulled Keely into my arms and we had one hell of a workout.

Later that night, I made my way back to the hotel. By the time I went to sleep Mike still wasn't back from Erica's. If I were him, I'd be careful about getting involved with her right now. I woke up the next morning at almost noon. There was a knock at the door and I opened it to see Nick. He stepped inside and I slid back in bed as he sat on the edge.

"I said goodbye to Trista last night." Nick sighed.
"And?"
"I told her that I was sorry and that I would like to start over."
"How did she respond to that?" I asked pretty much knowing the answer.
"She said she couldn't. She said it would be best if we're just friends or whatever."
"I'm sorry dude." I said. Nick just picked at his fingernails.
"I got a kiss goodbye at least." He shrugged.

"So did you break up with Keely?" Nick asked.
"Dude, all she wants is a completely physical, no strings attached relationship. I don't need to break anything off." I laughed.
"You're such a fucking liar!"
"Dude, I swear!"
"Keely actually said that?" Nick asked shocked. I nodded with a shit eating grin.
"I hate you. How do you get that lucky?" He asked.
"It's the Carter charm. I've been blessed with it. Too bad it skipped over you." I laughed. Nick punched my leg.
"Ass..." I said rubbing my leg. I hugged Nick goodbye and told him I'd see him in a few weeks.

About an hour after Nick left, Mike finally showed up.
"Where the hell have you been?" I asked.
"I was up talking to Erica all night." Mike shrugged.
"Just talking?"
"Yes, Aaron." Mike said rolling his eyes and going into the bathroom. I thought about how much crap I went through with Keely that I didn't have to go through. Why would Mackenzie say all that stuff?

Chapter 22

I left for work without Trista because I decided she could use the sleep. I got inside the building and George and Dana were just sitting there.
"Good morning." I said and Dana handed me a package. I smiled knowing what it was.
"Dana, I didn't mean it. I love your sweater." George said suddenly. Dana smiled.
"Oh George." Dana said and before I knew it, they were kissing. I rolled my eyes. I have the weirdest receptionists.

I walked into my office and checked my e-mail. I had like ten e-mails from Erica. I shook my head and began reading. In the contents of each e-mail were pretty much her emotions all jumbled up.
"I'll just have to make myself get over Nick. He's an ass." Was the theme of one.
"Nick doesn't love Trista. He'd just break her heart." Yet another topic of an e-mail.
"Mike's a really cool guy. I'm glad we became friends." This e-mail was actually one I smiled over.
"Are you mad at me?" Of course, the infamous "you hate me" e-mail. Erica was insecure in a lot of ways and drove Trista and I crazy with how she would occasionally get the feeling we hated her or were mad for some reason.

I sighed after replying in one big e-mail to Erica and then immediately smiled, looking over at the package. I tore into it and looked over at the press releases, dates, venues, meet-n-greets and all that kind of exciting stuff. I couldn't believe it. My dreams were still coming true. Keely came in and smiled happily.
"Hey." She said.
Hi!" I squealed holding a flyer up.
"Oh yay!" Keely said and I grinned. She looked through some of the package with me before sitting down.

"So aren't you going to ask about last night?" Keely asked.
"Oh yeah, I called you, but your voicemail came on right away." I said. Keely grinned.
"Sorry, I was busy." She said.
"Doing?" I asked.

"Aaron came over to apologize." Keely blushed. Oh come on, not again with this sex stuff.
"Keely, you slept with him again?" I groaned and she laughed.
"We did talk though." Keely defended.
"Talk about what? What color underwear you were wearing?" I asked. This was really starting to sicken me.
"No, about where our relationship was heading."

"Wait, so does this mean...you're a couple now?" I asked.
"No, of course not. Mac, you made me think Aaron wanted more." Keely said and I sighed.
"I know." I confessed.
"And you made Aaron think I wanted more." I just nodded.
"Why?" Keely asked.
"I don't know. It bothered me knowing you two were so carefree about this and neither one of you even bothered to think if the other one was just wanting to have fun too." I admitted.
"But we both felt that we were on the same level." Keely reasoned.
"Yeah, and Nick thought Erica was on the same level and Erica thought Nick was on her level." I shot at her. Keely sighed.
"Yeah, I gotcha." Keely said.

"So you and Aaron are still going to be..." I began and Keely nodded. I was completely disgusted now.
"You gross me out." I said throwing a paper on the desk.
"Mac, come on...if you felt what I did with Aaron, you wouldn't be able to stop either." Keely said. If she only knew, but I did stop. That's the difference.
"Keely, I just...it's sickening that you could let yourself be used like that." I said and Keely groaned.
"Mackenzie, it's Aaron. It's not like it's every guy on the street. I don't normally just pick random guys to sleep around with." Keely said aggravated.

"Yeah, it's Aaron. Seventeen year old Aaron, whose mother would press charges so fast, you won't know what hit you." I said and Keely just rolled her eyes.
"It's also the same Aaron who is probably talking about you like he's the man to Nick and Mike right now and he's the same Aaron who--"
"Who's friends with you and you just can't handle me and him having a sexual relationship." Keely said.
"Exactly." I sighed and she laughed lightly.
"I'm sorry Mac. We won't talk about it around you, okay?" She asked. I just nodded with a whatever attitude.

"I'm going to get some Starbucks for Trista and me. You want?" She asked.
"Yeah, but Trista isn't in yet."
"Is she okay?" Keely asked worried.
"Yeah, I just decided to let her sleep." Keely nodded.
"You want hot chocolate or are you actually going to get coffee?" Keely asked like it was a crime to not drink coffee at Starbucks.
"Hey, I've been getting better. I'll have a white chocolate mocha, thank you very much." I said and Keely smiled and left.

I looked back down at the tour documents and read down the list of performers. It was pretty impressive, I had to say. A perfect mix of known and unknown names. I thought about all the people that would be on this tour together and then I started to worry.

Erica and Nick alone have disaster written all over it. Add Trista to that and you've got heartache. On top of that, put Jane and me in the same vicinity and you've got a nightmare. Not to mention, Aaron and Keely sneaking away for their sexual rendezvous. I will have to remember to say a prayer for my precious tour tonight.

I was having lunch with my Mom after I made an appearance on the View.
"Where's Mike?" Mom asked.
"I think he went to see Erica."
"Erica? Oh, that unsigned singer that we met at that show?" Mom asked.
"Yeah. She's going to be on the tour."
"Oh that reminds me. Mackenzie had the tour itinerary messegered over to us." Mom said taking it out of her bag. I grinned as she handed it to me. I knew how excited Mac was to do this tour and I was happy she asked me to do it and Mom actually agreed to it. Well, after lots of convincing. It was going to be cool because I'd get to spend time with Mac and her friends for longer than just a week at a time.

"Oh, Keely is flying out to LA a couple of days after we get there." Mom said. I smiled and nodded. It was cool that she was going to be in my video.
"I like her, Aaron." Mom smiled.
"Good." Well, it was better than her hating my booty call, right? I kind of laughed at the thought.
"Are you and Mac going to be able to get along on the tour?" I asked. Mom rolled her eyes.
"Aaron, I'm a professional." I just glared at her.

"Mackenzie and I don't mix well, but I'll give her one thing, she's a smart girl." Mom said and my eyes widened. Was my mother giving Mac a compliment?
"She's smart enough not to mess with me, that is." Mom finished and I groaned.
"You were so close to a compliment."
"Yeah, and I'll never get that close again." Mom said before turning her attention back to her lunch.

After we finished, I had a few more interviews to do and I just went back to my hotel, not feeling like going out tonight. I was leaving tomorrow night for California to prepare for my new video shoot. I was excited about it I guess, but I was really happy to be doing the tour. I get to travel around with some of the coolest people and do what I love. I have to remember to thank God tonight for being nice to me.

Mike walked in smiling.
"Hey, where were you all day?" I asked.
"With Erica." He grinned.
"So are you two..." I asked curiously.
"No. We're just friends." I chuckled.
"Everyone says that."
"Well, I'm telling the truth." Mike said and I shrugged.

"How come you're not out tonight?" He asked.
"I'm tired." Mike nodded and laid down on the couch. I guess I really was tired because the next thing I knew it was morning. I showered and got dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt. I left my hair messy. I was too lazy to care. I decided to visit my favorite girls at Spotlight before I had to do some last minute interviews and packing. I walked in and those cheesy ass secretaries or whatever you call them were at it again. I just walked right by them laughing.

I knocked on Mac's open door. I liked that it was always opened. It was inviting and didn't give her the impression of a snobby, uptight important person. She was always just Mac. She looked up and smiled at me. That's always Mac too. I smiled back and walked in.
"You know, you really need to hire people who aren't attached at the lips." I said pointing toward the front desk. Mackenzie laughed.
"Tell me about it. I think they keep us amused and that's why I keep them around." She said.
"They keep me puking, so maybe you should get rid of them." I said and Mac giggled.

"Did you get the itinerary?"
"Yes, I did." I grinned.
"What do you think?" Mac asked.
"It's perfect. You did an amazing job putting it together." Mac blushed.
"Thanks."

"So I'm heading to Cali tonight."
"Yeah, I know. Finally, I'll be free of your presence." Mackenzie joked.
"You know you love me." I said slobbering her cheek in a wet kiss.
"Ewww! Aaron!" Mac whined wiping her cheek. I laughed. I looked at the time.
"I better get going. I just wanted to say goodbye. Are Trista and Keely here?" I asked.
"Trista's out for the day and Keely's at her desk."

"Okay. Tell Tris I said bye for me?"
"Will do." She smiled and I wrapped her into a hug.
"I'll see you soon, okay?"
"Yup, I can't wait. We're going to have so much fun." Mac grinned and it was good to see her smile this much, since all that's happened this week was drama.

"Oh, it will be very interesting." I said nodding.
"But I think we can all hold it together." She said. Mac always concentrated on the positive, more than the negative. She was important to keep around when you're feeling like shit.
"We can. So be good." I said hugging her once more.
"You too." Mac said as I squeezed her.

I made my way out of Mackenzie's office and to Keely's desk. She wasn't there and I was running late now, so I just wrote her a quick goodbye note and left. Later that night, I got on a plane and took off to California. My Mom told me later that BJ would be meeting us there, so I was really happy about that.

Once we were allowed to use our phones on the plane, I dialed Nick's number.
"Hello?" Nick answered.
"Hey...what are you doing?" I asked.
"Sleeping...I have an early interview with the rest of the guys tomorrow." Nick explained.
"Okay, then call me tomorrow when you can."
"See ya bro." Nick said before hanging up. Mike looked over at me.
"What did your ass of a brother have to say?" Mike asked. I sighed.
"Mike, just lay off him." I said. Mike just put his headphones on. I groaned and decided to get some sleep.

Chapter 23

I was flipping through a racing magazine checking out a new dirt bike when there was a knock on my hotel room door. I realized I was still in my boxers. I got up and pulled my pants on and opened the door to Keely.
"Hey." I smiled looking her over.
"Hey." She said back.
"I like the outfit." I said running my hand over her exposed stomach. She grinned and looked at my bare chest.
"I like yours too." Keely said. I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her inside, quickly closing the door.

Keely immediately dropped my pants and I had already removed her shirt and was now working on her bra, all the while I sucked on her neck. Just as Keely's hand found where I wanted her to be, there was a knock at the door. Fuck!
"Don't answer." I whispered. She nodded and began touching me. The knocking turned to pounding. With each pound, Keely and I undressed quicker and practically attacked each other.

Once we were done, the knocking had stopped all together. As Keely and I got our clothes back on, I heard a key turn in the door.
"Oh shit!" I said in a loud whisper.
"Hand me my shirt!" Keely whispered. I threw it at her and buttoned the top of my pants before pushing Keely into the bathroom. I jumped on the bed and grabbed my magazine from the floor, just as Mike, Mom and BJ walked in.

"Beedge!" I yelled getting off the bed and hugging her tightly.
"I was knocking before for like ten minutes, where were you?" BJ asked once we parted.
"I was in the shower." I said and Mike walked near the bathroom.
"Is there someone in the bathroom?" He asked.
"Yeah, Keely just got in Mom." I said, trying to play this all off. Mom smiled.
"Great."

Keely came out of the bathroom fully dressed. She hugged Mike before he went into the bathroom. I looked over at her and she came over shyly. My Mom hugged her in an instant and BJ looked at me funny.
"So this is Keely?" BJ asked with a smile.
"Yeah, Keel, this is my sister, Bobbie Jean." I said introducing them. BJ hugged Keely and I noticed her looking over toward my bed.

"Why don't we all go to lunch?" I suggested.
"Good idea. I'll go get my purse. Oh Keely, come to my room. I want to show you the view." Mom said dragging her new best friend along. BJ put her hands on her hips and I looked toward the bathroom door.
"Mike, are you taking a dump in there or what?" I yelled laughing.
"Fuck you." Mike said from the bathroom and I laughed before turning toward BJ again.

"So, that's your new girlfriend?"
"Uh, yeah."
"She's pretty."
"Thanks."
"How long have you been together?"
"Um, we're not technically a couple."
"So you're just dating?"
"Yeah." Jesus, what was this Mom on speed? She just spouted out questions one after another.
"And you're already screwing huh?"
"Ye--Beedge!" I said surprised.

"How old is she Aaron?" She asked.
"Eight--"
"Don't lie to me. Save them for Mom."
"Twenty." I said with a sigh.
"Look, I'm not going to lecture you Aaron." BJ said. Thank you God!
"But I'm just going to warn you..." Oh great.
"Be careful. You don't want to be having a kid before you grow up yourself." I sighed and nodded.
"I know."

"And besides, girls like that are not something you should be looking for."
"B, Keely's a very nice girl."
"You mean easy."
"Stop it."
"Aaron, come on. I know how girls like her are. She's just after you because of who you are and what you can give her." BJ said and I thought about it for a minute.
"She's not using me for anything, but what I'm using her for." BJ looked disgusted. I guess it was too much information for her.
"Don't be too sure. Mom seems to have adopted her already and helping her career right along."
"Keely's not using me for my Mother." I assured her. Please shoot me if that ever happens.

All through lunch, BJ had a bit of an attitude with Keely. It was annoying me. No one in this family knew when to butt out. I know she's just trying to look out for me, but damn give people a chance. I shouldn't have to live in a glass house. In Mom's eyes, Mackenzie already broke through one pane. I know she felt she lost some grip on me when Mac and I started to make plans for my career without Mom's help. Plus, when I'm in New York, I do what I want and I leave as I please because I have some place to go. Mackenzie's open door policy works just about everywhere she is. I headed to bed early since tomorrow I had an early wake-up call for the video shoot.

The phone rang as Trista and I were watching some movies we rented. We both groaned and Trista paused the movie as I answered it. It was Keely.
"How's California?" I asked.
"It's so cool here!"
"How's the video going?" I asked so happy that she was getting this opportunity.
"I'm having so much fun." Keely said excitedly.
"The director said I'm a natural." I smiled.
"I'm so proud of you!" I said.

Keely and I talked a little more before I handed the phone over to Trista. I went into the kitchen and got a drink of water before returning to the couch.
"So you had to run into the bathroom?" Trista laughed still on the phone.
"You guys are like rabbits or something. Jesus Keely." I groaned. True, I didn't want to hear about this, but I was also kind of upset that Keely actually spared me the details.

Once Trista got off the phone, I played the movie again.
"Mac?" Trista asked.
"Yeah?"
"Does it bother you that Keely and Aaron are still, you know..." I just glared at her.
"I mean I know it sickens you, but I mean because of your kiss and all..." Trista asked.
"No. When we kiss, it's different. They weren't meant to be taken as more than maybe a mixture of friendship and slight attraction." I blushed.

"Wait, they?" She asked.
"You kissed more than once?"
"Yeah, but they were little ones. No big deal." I shrugged. Trista slapped my leg.
"Mackenzie, you made out with Aaron. The same guy Keely is sleeping with, the same guy you said you'd NEVER get involved with!" Trista shouted. I bit my lower lip.

"We didn't make-out. We kissed a few times. Aaron and I still aren't involved and we probably won't ever kiss again." I said trying to turn my attention back on the movie. Trista grabbed the remote control from me and paused the movie again.
"You probably won't kiss again? That's convincing." She said and we both just laughed and I shrugged.
"We don't have anything physical." I assured her.
"Right." She said before playing the movie again.

The rest of the week flew by and Keely was back before I knew it. We were all working like crazy in order to organize everything for the tour. I had to make sure things were stable at the magazine before I could feel comfortable about leaving it.

Erica was a nervous wreck with each day that passed by. Her demo was done and being shipped to all my contacts. Besides that, this was her first big tour. I felt bad that I didn't have a lot of time to calm her down, but I was really stressing to make sure everything went right. Once I'm on the tour, I know the fun will start even though I'll still be on the job. I just hope the drama stays at a minimum.

Chapter 24

"You have everything?" Trista asked. I looked down at my four suitcases and nodded.
"If I need anything else, I can just go shopping." I shrugged and Trista laughed.
"I'm going to miss you." I said.
"I'm going to miss you too. I'll be there before you know it." Trista assured me.

The doorbell rang and Trista opened it to Erica.
"Hey Erica." I said and she just walked past Trista and grabbed one of my bags.
"I'll be waiting outside." She said and I nodded before she left. Trista groaned.
"Oh, Nick called me while you were at the office." Trista said as she picked up one of my bags.
"I know." I smirked.
"How?" Trista asked as I picked up the remaining two bags and we walked out of the apartment.
"He called me first and told me he was going to." Trista laughed.

"So what did he have to say?" I asked.
"That he missed me."
"Aww..."
"And he can't wait to see me."
"Aww..."
"And I said I wish I could say the same."
"Aww...ouch! Tris!" I scolded. She laughed.
"You didn't really say that did you?"
"I did and he said the same thing you did."
"Aww?" I asked. She shook her head.
"Ouch."

"Well, it wasn't very nice."
"I told him I was kidding and I did miss him." Trista said and I smiled.
"Good."
"And he would like to have another shot. I told him I'd think about that." She smiled and I knew she'd give in.
"Well, I think you should give it to him."
"Mackenzie, of course you do. You always do that." Trista laughed.

"Do what?" I asked.
"Take the guy's side." I just laughed along.
"I do not."
"Yes, when George and Dana have their meaningless arguments...you always take George's side."
"That's because Dana' a flake and throws tantrums!" I laughed.
"And when Aaron was dating that chick he met in Denver and they broke up, you blamed it all on her..."
"Tris, Aaron's my friend of course I'm going to take his side." I sighed.

"Well, I just always remember you siding with guys." Trista said. I shrugged.
"Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I don't understand how stupid we can be." I laughed.
"Yeah, that or it's because you like taking their side because you know they can beat you up."
"That's true too." I laughed and we made our way outside to the awaiting car. I hugged Trista.

"Call me anytime. Have fun." Trista ordered.
"I will. Thanks for watching over the business for me." I smiled.
"Anytime." Trista said and then she turned toward Erica.
"Good luck out there." Trista said.
"Thanks." Erica replied before getting in the car. Trista looked at me and sighed. I hugged her once more and got in the car.

The driver pulled away and I looked over at Erica.
"Excited?" I asked.
"Yup." She grinned.
"Mike's going to be there." I reminded her.
"I know. So will Nick." Erica said and I nodded.
"Are you going to be okay with that?" I asked. She shrugged.
"I can be mature about this." Erica said. I smiled. I hope so.

The car pulled up to the meeting area where all the buses were. I smiled seeing everyone gathering around and greeting each other. I can't believe I started this thing. My eyes just lit up. Erica smiled at me and I returned it.

We got out of the car and I suddenly got nervous to make my speech. The driver began taking the bags out and I told him where mine and Erica's bus was. Keely was sharing with us too, but she was meeting us here.

I walked over to Dan, who was in charge of organizing the production of the concert. We hugged and talked for a few minutes before I felt someone tickle my sides. I jumped and turned around to see Nick. I smacked his arm and hugged him.

"Ah, it's good to see you." I said squeezing him.
"You too." He said kissing my cheek.
"Uh oh." He whispered as we pulled away.
"What?"
"Erica." He said. I noticed Erica walking over to us and I smiled at him sympathetically.
"Make things right." I suggested.
"I'll try." Nick assured me.

I walked away and said hello to some of the other acts like Howie from the Backstreet Boys and his sister Pollyanna. I'll admit when I was a teenager, I had a huge crush on Howie. I still couldn't look him in the eye without blushing. After Howie and Pollyanna walked away, Keely came over to me and hugged me.
"Excited?" She asked.
"You have no idea." I grinned.

"Where's Aaron?" I asked noticing he still wasn't here.
"Damned if I know." Keely shrugged. I laughed.
"Have you talked to him?" I wondered.
"Not in a few weeks. We're not a couple, remember?" Keely said and I nodded.

I started assigning buses and Aaron still wasn't there yet. I started to worry and Nick came over to me.
"Do you know where your brother is?" I asked.
"No. Did you call his cell?" Nick asked. I shook my head.
"Well, call him." Nick said wrapping his arm around my shoulder. Just then I noticed Aaron, Jane and Mike getting out of a car. I sighed in relief and Nick smiled.
"Everything will be great." He said reassuringly.

Aaron walked up to me and bear hugged me. When we parted, I smacked his chest.
"You had me worried."
"I'm sorry, but I have a good excuse for being late." He grinned.
"Mac, it's time for your speech." Dan said before walking away.
"Tell me when I'm done, okay?" I asked. Aaron nodded and Mike hugged me quickly.
"Hello Mackenzie." Jane said.
"Hello Jane." I said. I never called her Mrs. Carter in my life and I'm sure that probably pissed her off. We gave each other a cold stare before I walked over to a microphone stand that was set up.

"Hello everyone! Glad to see we all made it." I grinned. I looked over at Keely and Erica and then at Aaron and Nick before continuing.
"I just want to thank all of you for supporting Spotlight Magazine. It really means the world to me and I know we'll have a lot of fun. It will be a great tour. So happy traveling to our first stop in Albany where rehearsals will take place there as well. Good luck everyone and thank you for making this dream of mine come true." I finished and everyone applauded me.

I walked over to Aaron and he hugged me tightly.
"It's happening. I'm so proud of you." He said in my ear. I pulled back and tears filled my eyes.
"Don't cry. What's wrong?" Aaron asked and I laughed.
"I usually cry when I succeed one of my dreams." I said and Aaron nodded.
"So what's your excuse for being late?" I asked and Jane came over to us.
"Aaron, let's get on the bus."

"I'll be right there, Mom." Aaron said. Jane sighed and walked off toward the bus. I looked toward Nick as he followed. Mike walked a good distance behind them. I noticed some tension between Mike and Nick earlier, but I just shrugged it off.
"I'm waiting." I said to Aaron.
"And you're going to wait some more." Aaron laughed.

"So you're not going to give me your excuse?" I asked.
"I got you a present. That's all you need to know right now."
"Aaron..." I whined.
"Not attractive, Mac."

"I don't care. When do I get this present?" I asked with a smile.
"Not until about three months."
"Three months? Aaron Freakin' Carter, why do I have to wait that long?" I asked and he just laughed.
"Because it's special and it needs to be given at the right time." Aaron said. I sighed.
"Fine. You're lucky I like surprises." I said.

"Aaron!" Jane yelled.
"Go Mama's Boy, mother is calling." I said pushing him lightly. He laughed.
"See you later." Aaron ran off to his bus and I made sure everyone got on theirs before getting on my bus. "Spotlight Magazine" was written across it and I beamed. The feeling was incredible.

I got on my bus and checked it out a little before settling in the back sitting area next to Nick. I actually requested a bus with Nick since it would be like old times when we shared a room together. Plus, it saved Mac money.
"Is Mike still not really talking to you?" I asked. Nick shrugged.
"I would guess so since he didn't even say hi to me."
"This is ridiculous. Erica's a big girl and can stick up for herself. Mike doesn't need to be her bodyguard and lose his best friend." I huffed.
"Yeah, well maybe you should say that to Mike and not me." Nick said.

"Say what?" Mike asked coming into the room.
"Mike, we have to spend three months on this bus together and I don't want there to be any fights. Mac will have a heart attack." I said and both Mike and Nick looked at me funny.
"Mac?" They both asked.
"This tour is her baby. Don't ruin it for her." I said.
"Your brother is a jackass and all you care about is that Mac wouldn't want us to fight?" Mike asked. I sighed.
"Who you calling a jackass?" Nick asked standing up. I stood between them.
"Look, back up guys. Let Erica deal with Nick's shit." I said turning toward Mike. He just turned and walked down the aisle of the bus.

Nick and I played some videogames for a little while and about three hours later, the bus stopped. We got off the bus and I noticed Mackenzie go into the hotel. I saw Keely leaning against the bus with Erica and I walked over.
"Hey." I said leaning next to her.
"Hi." Keely smiled. Erica rolled her eyes and walked away. She stopped to talk to Mike and Nick walked over to them. Oh shit. A few moments later, Nick and Erica went onto my bus and Mike walked off annoyed.

"Can I come to your room tonight?" I whispered in Keely's ear.
"Mac's sharing a room with me." She said and I pouted. Damn. She couldn't come back to my room. I was sharing with Nick.
"Meet me by the buses at midnight?" I asked. Keely smiled and nodded. Mac came over and handed me a key and Dan checked me off on a clipboard. Mac continued to give Keely a key and then went to find everyone else.

Erica and Nick came off the bus. They didn't look too upset, so I'm hoping some progress was made. I kissed Keely's cheek before heading into the hotel. I ran into Howie in the hallway and we talked for a few minutes before I went to my room. A few minutes later, Nick came in and went into the bathroom. When he came out, he got in bed.
"So what did you talk to Erica about?" I asked.
"I just apologized." Nick shrugged.
"Did she forgive you?"
"Not really, but she did say we should try to be friends." Nick laughed.
"Be careful dude. Friends is what they all say." I sighed. Nick looked at me.

"Talking from experience there Aaron?" Nick smirked. I threw my pillow at him.
"No, I'm just saying that I'm sure Erica still has some unresolved feelings for you." Nick nodded and not before long, he was asleep. I looked at the clock and saw that it was only ten. I needed to find something to do for two hours. I got out of bed and I went to knock on Mac and Keely's door, but I heard my name called and I jumped. I turned to see my Mom.
"What?" I asked.
"Keely isn't in there." I narrowed my eyes. What does she keep tabs on her?

"I was looking for Mac." I said knocking.
"Why do you need to talk to Mackenzie at this hour?" She asked.
"Mom, it's only ten." I sighed.
"You should get some sleep." Mom said just as Mackenzie opened the door.
"Hi." She smiled.
"Hey." I said.
"I'm bored." I said desperately and Mac laughed before noticing my Mom.
"Go do something with Nick." She said and I knew she suggested that because Mom was standing right there eyeing her.

"He's asleep. Can I hang with you for a while?" I asked. I could see Mom's eyes narrow from the corner of my eye.
"Sure." Mac said and shot Mom a phony smile.
"Aaron..." Mom warned.
"Night Mom." I said before stepping inside Mac's room and closing the door.
"Are you trying to get me in trouble?" Mac asked. I laughed.
"Mackenzie, you're a big girl now. Don't let the mega-beast scare you."
"I'm not scared of your mother." Mac said and I nodded.
"Sure, you aren't."

Mac pushed me and I tripped over her shoe and fell onto the bed laughing. I pulled her by the leg and began tickling her. She squirmed away and I pinned her down, just to see how much I could get away with. I straddled her hips and held her wrists down. She stuck her tongue out at me as she tried to squirm away.

"Is that an offer?" I asked and she quickly closed her mouth. I laid my body on top of her and loved the way she felt underneath me.
"Aaron..." Mac said in a shaky voice.
"Mac, if I kissed you right now, would you kiss me back?" I asked.
"Aaron, no." She said and I was kind of surprised. I got off of her.
"Why?" I asked.

"You're with Keely." I said.
"Yeah, but I'm not with Keely." Aaron said emphasizing "with". I sighed.
"She's one of my best friends Aaron. We don't share guys."
"I'm sorry." Aaron said standing up.
"For what?" I asked.
"For fooling around with you just now. I wanted to see how far you'd let me take it." Aaron shrugged. What a disgusting pig.

"Well, now you know. Aaron, don't play around like that." I said kind of annoyed.
"I know. I don't know why I did it. We're just friends Mac, but sometimes I can't deny the fact that I'm a guy and you're a girl." Aaron said not looking me in the eye. I smiled at his youth. The way he said it was just like a confused thirteen year old.
"It's okay. Let's just forget about it. And how about we leave the fooling around to you and Keely and me and Nick?" I asked. Aaron's eyes widened.
"You and Nick?" He asked. I laughed.
"Me and Howie?" I then said.
"Ugh." Aaron said disgusted. I shook my head. Oh but he can sleep around with one of my best friends?
"Please tell me you're not serious." Aaron asked.
"That's for me to know and you to wonder." I grinned.

Chapter 25

A couple of days later, I was sitting in rehearsals in between Mac and Keely. It was a little awkward, but not as bad as you'd expect. A fairly new boy group was onstage and I was pretty bored. I looked over at Keely and smiled.
"What?" She asked.
"Let's go back to the hotel." I whispered in her ear. Mackenzie smacked me.
"Oww, what was that for?" I asked.
"It's rude to whisper."
"Sorry." I said before turning back to Keely. She shook her head and I pouted.
"I'm working." Keely sighed and I nodded before leaning my head on Mac's shoulder.

"I am not your pillow." She said pushing my head away.
"Fine." I said leaning my head on Keely's shoulder.
"Did I say you can make yourself comfortable?" Keely asked pushing my head away too.
"Forget you two, I'm going to find something to do." I said standing up. They just laughed as I walked away. I walked out to the buses and hopped on my bus. I walked to the back and stopped dead in my tracks. Erica was straddling Nick half naked and his hands were all over while his pants were around his ankles.

"What the fuck?" I yelled out of complete shock. Erica covered up quickly and climbed off of Nick.
"Aaron, get out!" Nick yelled.
"I'm not getting out! What the fuck are you two doing?" I asked.
"It's none of your business. Stay out of it!" Nick yelled.
"Aaron, please give us a few minutes to get dressed." Erica said a little timidly. I sighed and nodded before walking off the bus. Mac came toward me and I just smiled. She went to walk on the bus and I stood in front of the entrance.

It was almost time for Nick's rehearsal, so I decided to go to the bus and tell him. I walked outside and Aaron smiled at me kind of strangely. I walked toward him and went to walk on the bus, but he blocked the doorway.
"Can you move please?" I asked.
"Why?"
"Because...I need to get on the bus."
"Why?" Aaron asked. I sighed.
"Aaron, I'm working. I don't have time to play games."
"Well, maybe I can help you...you need Nick? I'll go get him for you." Aaron said eagerly. Why am I friends with such a weirdo?

Just then, Erica came off the bus looking guilty. She was straightening her shirt and just walked past Aaron and I awkwardly. My eyes widened and I looked back at Aaron. My first thought was to assume Aaron and Erica, but I quickly shook that from my mind. Especially when Nick came walking off the bus looking just as guilty. Nick wouldn't look at me.
"You wanted to talk to me, Aaron?" Nick asked.
"I do." I said forcefully.

"You need me for rehearsals?" Nick asked looking over at me.
"Yeah, but first let's talk." I said crossing my arms.
"I have nothing to talk about." Nick sighed.
"I took your side Nick!" I yelled and Aaron winced.

"Took my side?" He asked.
"I defended you to Trista. I helped you get a date with her!"
"Mackenzie, what do you want me to say?" Nick asked.
"I don't know!" I yelled.
"Maybe what the fuck is going through your head?" Aaron yelled at Nick.
"Erica came on to me, okay?"
"And you had no complaints, did you?"
"I can't help it if I'm attracted to her." Nick sighed.

"Nick, you've been through this shit already! I told you to be careful just the other night!" Aaron yelled.
"I was stupid! I made a mistake! What do you really want me to say?" Nick asked.
"I don't want you to say anything! I want you to learn from your mistakes and stop making them!" I yelled.
"Mac, I have nothing to feel guilty for!" Nick yelled.
"What!?" Aaron and I both yelled.
"Nick, you already broke Erica's heart. She was starting to get back to normal. What do you think this is going to change?" I asked.
"She said that she just needed me to hold her. I didn't mean for it to go any further." Nick groaned.
"You have to learn to resist." Aaron said softly. Nick looked at him.
"Don't you even go there bro." Nick said. I rolled my eyes.
"Did you really think sleeping with Erica again was going to make Trista run to your arms?" I asked.

"Mac, I'm single. I don't have anything holding me back. It was wrong to give in to Erica. I know that, but you can't expect me to not give in to my needs." Nick said and I just laughed.
"I'm single Nick. Does that mean I have to screw whoever comes along?" I asked. Nick smirked.
"No, you should do it with someone you trust." Nick joked putting his arm around me. Aaron pushed it off.
"Dude, no one's laughing." Aaron said. Nick sighed.
"You know what? I'm twenty-five years old and I really don't need lectures from my baby brother and..." Nick said looking at me, searching for something clever to refer to me as.
"A magazine editor." Oooh, nice finish Nick. I rolled my eyes as he walked off.

"You have rehearsals in five minutes!" I yelled after him. Aaron looked over at me and ran his hands through his hair.
"What is wrong with him?" I asked. Aaron shrugged.
"What's wrong with Erica?" He asked. I sighed.
"I don't know, but I'm going to find out." I said walking toward our bus.

When I got on the bus, I was surprised to see Mike with Erica.
"Can I talk to Erica alone for a second?" I asked. Mike nodded and smiled at Erica before stepping off of the bus. I sat down next to Erica as she looked out the window.
"Why?" I asked.
"Why what?" She shrugged.
"Erica, Nick hurt you. Why would you want to do whatever it was you were doing with him?"
"He cares about me Mac. I know he does." Erica said sighing.

"I'm sorry, but he doesn't feel the way you do Ric." I said rubbing her back. She shrugged me away.
"What do you think you know everything?"
"I never said that. I'm just trying to--"
"Is it so hard to believe that Nick Carter could love me back?" She asked standing up.
"No, but one night of sex does not equal up to love." I said grinded my teeth out of frustration. Erica just stood there for a moment.
"I don't know what I'm doing Mac." She cried. I stood up and hugged her.
"Ric, you can't force someone to love you. Especially not by giving them sex." Erica just nodded.

"I hate him." She said softly.
"Nick?" I asked.
"Yes, I hate him for using me."
"Erica, he didn't know you wanted more." I said. There I was defending Nick again. Trista was right, I do take the guy's side.
"Mackenzie, don't stick up for him."
"Are you okay?" I asked after a moment of silence. She nodded and I wrapped an arm around her.
"It's almost your turn for rehearsals." I said and Erica managed a smile.

We walked inside the venue and Nick was onstage giving his all. Erica sighed before going to the back to get ready. I sat down next to Keely. Jane was on the other side of her.
"Keely, you can take a break." I said. She smiled and nodded before walking out. I noticed a few minutes later, Aaron had followed. It was truly sickening. Jane looked over at me and I just smiled.
"The microphone has too much echo." She said.
"I haven't noticed."

"Well, you wouldn't really know since you're still new to this." Jane said smugly.
"Jane, I've been going to concerts all my life, I think I know how a microphone sounds." I said annoyed.
"Yeah, but what do you know about sound and all the production crap?" She asked.
"You forget, I've been putting together concerts for two years now." I sighed.
"Right, I forgot Mackenzie. You know everything; you're the smartest girl in the world. I know nothing about this business. Why am I even here?" Jane said sarcastically. I groaned.
"Just stop. You want to fix the damn echo? I'll fix it!" I yelled grabbing the loud speaker and talking.
"Hold on Nick. Jerry, could you please lessen the echo on the microphone?" I asked.
"Mac, the echo's fine." Nick said. I looked back toward Jane and then spoke into the loud speaker again.
"Never mind Jerry." I sat back and crossed my arms.
"And I suppose Nick knows nothing about microphones and sound either, right?" I asked. Jane rolled her eyes and got up. I smiled satisfactorily.

Keely and I got our clothes back on and just sat on the couch. I laid down and Keely laid at the other end and we just sat in silence. I heard someone get on the bus and heard grumbling and grunting.
"Mom?" I asked. Mom came to the back.
"Hi, what are you two doing?" She asked.
"Just chilling." I said and Keely nodded. Mom looked a little pissed.

"Are you okay?" Keely asked.
"Ugh, I can't take her." Mom said and I knew instantly who she meant.
"Mom, don't pick on Mac." I sighed.
"Aaron, I wasn't picking on anyone. I made a simple suggestion, but she can't take help from anyone because she knows everything." Mom rambled. I rolled my eyes.
"Look, this is her concert. Don't get involved in Mac's job and she won't get involved in yours." I argued. That only seemed to make Mom angrier.
"That's where you're wrong. Mackenzie is constantly hanging around you when I'm trying to do my job. She has opinions on what interviews you should do and how to market your albums and..."

"Mom, she's trying to help me. That's her job. She's giving you tips." I explained.
"But I didn't ask for them and I don't need her tips! Mackenzie is a bad influence on you, Aaron." Mom said and I had to laugh. Keely even joined in.
"I am serious!" Mom said and I laughed harder.
"Mrs. Carter, with all due respect...Mackenzie is not a bad influence. I would think Aaron would be one on her." Keely said and Mom just shook her head.
"Be careful Keely. They both can be bad influences on you." Mom said before walking off the bus.

Chapter 26

The next couple of weeks were somewhat rough. Jane and I bashed heads a lot. I just wish she'd stay out of my business! Nick told Erica there was nothing between them, which resulted in Erica running to me crying and Mike comforting her. He's still not speaking to Nick. Howie and I have been talking a lot and have been discussing me possibly doing a few writing sessions with him! I always wanted to take my hobby of songwriting and turn it into something more. Writing with Howie would be a dream come true.

Aaron and Keely's sexual activities seem to be slowing down, thankfully. Jane and Keely have become tour buddies or something. I don't know, but I tease Aaron about it all the time.
"When's the wedding?"
"Shut up." Sometimes I'd joke about Keely replacing him in the family too. He'd usually wind up shoving whatever he was eating in my face and I'd send Nick to kick his ass. It was a ritual I will always cherish.

As for the tour itself, the shows have been flawless! We've had big turnouts and acknowledgments on various radio stations. I think it's safe to say that the Spotlight tour is a success! Things on the home front seem to be quiet. Trista sounds bored out of her mind and despite her worries, I know she's excited to meet up with us on the tour. She never knew about Nick and Erica's acts on the bus and I wanted to keep it that way. True, I normally tell her every little thing that goes on, but she doesn't need to know about that incident. I couldn't wait to see her next week. I even begged her to come a week early, since the person taking over for her was already available. Trista refused though, saying she needed to finish up some things.

We were on our way to Maryland and I couldn't wait to get off of the bus already. I was starting to feel a little motion sickness. Finally, the bus stopped and we all piled off. Dan went to retrieve the keys while I took in some fresh air. Nick came over to me and smiled.
"Want to come to a club with me and Howie tonight?" He asked. My eyes widened.
"Yeah!" I said thinking of dancing with Howie. Okay, so maybe I still had a tiny crush on the guy. Can you blame me?
"All right, be ready by ten." Nick said pinching my cheek. I smiled and ran off toward Aaron and Keely happily.
"Keel, we need to go shopping."
"You don't have to tell me twice. Let's go." She said pulling my arm. I laughed.
"It's like seven am. I don't think the stores are open yet." Keely nodded with a laugh.

"Hey, I was thinking of going to that arcade we passed tonight." Aaron said.
"Oh sorry Aar, I have plans already." I grinned.
"With who?" Aaron asked.
"Nick and Howie." I smiled walking off. Keely and I slept for a few hours before heading out to the nearest mall. About two hours later, we came back with two bags full of clothing, both satisfied.

"So what are you going to do tonight?" I asked. She shrugged.
"Probably go to that arcade with Aaron."
"You two seem to be becoming pretty close." I said constantly wondering if they were going to move into a deeper relationship.
"Mac, we're on tour together. It's kind of hard not to spend time with each other when you have no choice." Keely laughed.

"You make it sound like you don't want to be with Aaron."
"Define be with." Keely sighed.
"Be with as in spending time with."
"Oh no, he's a pretty cool guy once I actually tried talking to him." She shrugged.
"So what's the problem?" I asked.
"I didn't say there was a problem. You're just trying to make a problem." Keely said. I laughed.
"I am not. I would just like to know where you stand. It's like you don't tell me anything anymore." I sighed. Keely stopped looking through her bags and sat next to me. "Mac, you were the one who said you didn't want to know."
"I know, but I still want to know...I don't know what I want to know." I chuckled.
"Don't confuse me." Keely laughed.

The rest of the day, I spent with Keely and Erica watching movies. We met up with Pollyanna and Mike for dinner and then I headed back to the hotel to get ready. I showered again and did my hair in loose curls before putting my new outfit on, which consisted of a baby pink halter top, complete with cleavage and navel exposure and tight black pants with laces up the sides. I put my backless shoes on and applied my make-up.

There was a knock at the door and I opened it to Nick and Aaron. I smiled at both of them and they both looked at my outfit. Nick grinned and Aaron's mouth kind of just hung open.
"Ready?" Nick asked. I smiled and nodded before closing the door behind me.
"Nick..." Aaron said as Nick took my hand and we walked down the hall to the elevator.
"See ya Aaron." Nick snickered before we stepped onto the elevator.
"Bye Aar." I said blowing him a kiss.

When we arrived in Maryland, I got off the bus and Keely came over to me. We arranged to hang out tonight and maybe sneak off if we could to the buses or hope Nick goes out. It's been about a week since Keely and I have slept together. I'm not really sure why. I know my feelings haven't changed toward her and I don't think hers have changed for me. It's just we're becoming better friends right now and it's just weird...

Mac walked over to us and wanted to go shopping with Keely or some crap. I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, I was thinking of going to that arcade we passed tonight." I said.
"Oh sorry Aar, I have plans already." Mac smiled widely.
"With who?"
"Nick and Howie." She said smiling again and walking off. What the hell? Why wasn't I invited?

I got up to my hotel room and Nick walked in a few minutes later.
"Dude, you're going out tonight?" I asked. Nick smiled.
"Yeah, I'm going clubbing with Mackenzie, Howie and some chick he knows up here."
"Why didn't you invite me?" I asked surprised.
"Aar, it's a twenty-one and over club. Sorry dude." Nick said looking through his suitcase.
"So? I won't have a problem getting in." I argued.
"Look, Mom knows where I'm going tonight already. There's no way she'll let you come with us." Nick shrugged.

"Besides, wouldn't you feel like the fifth wheel?" Nick asked. I narrowed my eyes.
"Why? It's just Howie, some chick, you and Mac. It's not like it's a date or something." I said and Nick looked down.
"Well, Howie and the chick are dating." Nick shrugged. I laughed.
"Yeah, but you and Mac are obviously not." Nick looked down again. Suddenly, my face went blank. I just stared at Nick, waiting for him to say something.
"No, but that could change." Nick said with a smirk. I'll kill him.
"Cut the shit, Nick." I laughed.

"I'm serious, Aaron." Nick said and I looked at his face, not one smirk or smile.
"Come on Nick. You and Mac?" I asked. This had to be a joke. Were my suspicions right after all?
"What would be so wrong with me and Mac?" Nick asked. I searched for any excuse I could think of.
"She's too young for you dude." I said and Nick laughed.
"She's twenty-two and I'm twenty-five. What's the big deal?" Nick asked.
"Well, maybe it's just stupid." I said getting aggravated.
"Maybe you're just jealous." Nick said and I looked at him.
"Maybe I don't want Mac to get hurt." I said defensively.
"She's a big girl Aaron." Nick said before going into the bathroom. Ugh! I kicked my sneaker across the room out of anger and laid down on the bed. I fell asleep a little while later and didn't wake up until it was time for dinner.

Mom ordered room service and I ate quickly, but I couldn't get the date off my mind. After I left Mom's room, I went back to mine and Nick's room and showered. When I got out of the bathroom, Nick was laying his clothes out.
"I'm going in the shower. Don't touch my clothes." Nick warned before heading for the bathroom. I felt like jumping on them and then throwing them out the window. I groaned and flipped the TV on. Once Nick was out of the shower, I watched him get ready and he disgusted me. Whistling while he gelled his hair and doing stupid dances. He was just trying to bother me and he knew it was working. What an ass.

"Okay, I'm ready. How do I look?" Nick asked. I shrugged.
"Like shit."
"Thanks bro, I'll return the compliment someday." Nick said.
"Well, I can't leave Mac waiting. I don't know why I waited so long to ask her out." Nick said before walking out the door. I'm not going to buy into this act. At that moment, every time I've seen Mackenzie and Nick together up until today flashed through my mind. Every hug, kiss on the cheek, playful bantering or was it flirting? Shit. I flew off of the bed and made my way out of the room. I saw Nick walking down the hall on his way to Mackenzie's door.

"Nick!" I said running over and just then Mac opened the door. Whoa. Why was she so beautiful and why did it just take me until these past two months to realize it? I guess I just never thought about it.
"Ready?" Nick asked. Mac smiled and nodded before closing the door behind her.
"Nick..." I said as Nick took Mac's hand and they walked down the hall to the elevator.
"See ya Aaron." Nick snickered before they stepped onto the elevator. Can I punch him?
"Bye Aar." Mac said blowing me a kiss. I punched the wall and stomped back down the hall.
Keely came over to me and smiled.
"We on for tonight?" She asked.
"Yeah, you ready now?" I asked. Keely nodded and I led her to the elevator.
