Daveigh Landry walked into her World History class and sat down. She was having a bad day and it was about to get worse. Her friend Stevie Brock walked in and took his usual seat next to her.
�Dave? You okay?� he asked
�Fine, why?� she replied
�You look upset.� He said
�No, I�m just tired. Gym class kicked my butt.� She said
�What happened?� he asked
�Your girlfriend and her stupid friends just love making me crazy.� She said
�What did they do now?� he asked
�They love to make fun of me. I don�t know why. What did I ever do to Amena to make her dislike me so much?� she asked
�I don�t know. I�m sorry Dave. Do you want me to talk to her?� he asked
�What good will it do? She�s never going to stop.� She said
�She might.� He said
�Steve, how many times have you talked to her before?� she asked
�True. I don�t know, maybe she�ll be different.� He said
�I doubt it.� She replied
They sat in class and waited for it to be over. Daveigh just wanted to go home. It was really hard for her to deal with Amena. She did because Stevie was her friend but if it was up to her she would just kill Amena and be done with it. Daveigh couldn�t understand how someone like Stevie could be with someone like Amena. He was such a sweet, caring, nice guy and Amena was Satan in girl form. Daveigh also wanted Stevie to be her boyfriend. She didn�t have a major crush on him but she thought he was cute and figured she would make a better girlfriend than Amena. Of course, she couldn�t just suggest this to Stevie because that wasn�t her place to do.
Finally class was over. It was time for lunch. Daveigh picked up her bag and started to leave.
�Dave, want to come with me to eat lunch?� Stevie asked
�No, that�s okay.� Daveigh said
�Aw, come on.� He said
�No, I don�t want to be around Amena and her flying monkeys.� She replied
�So, we won�t sit with them. I feel like I never spend time with you anymore.� He said
�That�s because you don�t.� she replied
�And I want to. So, what do you say?� he asked
�Fine. We can sit with my friends.� She said
They walked into the cafeteria and sat with Daveigh�s friends Effie and Kellen. The two girls looked shocked to Stevie sit with them.
�Um Steve, did you get lost?� Kellen asked
�No, why?� he asked
�Because you usually sit over there.� Kellen said, pointing to the table Stevie usually sat at with Amena and her friends.
�I decided to sit with Daveigh and you guys today.� He said, sitting down.
�Well as much as we appreciate the company, we don�t want the Queen of the underworld to come over here and start a scene.� Effie said
�She won�t start a scene Eff.� Stevie replied
�And that�s what you�d like to believe.� Effie said
�She won�t.� he said
�Well, we�re going to find out. Here she comes.� Daveigh said
Amena walked over to the table with her two friends Caitlin and Alyssa. They all had matching scowls on their faces. Daveigh groaned inwardly.
�Stephen, what are you doing sitting here?� Amena asked
�I thought that I would have lunch with my friends for a change.� Stevie replied
�Oh, you�re slumming. How nice.� Amena replied
�I�m not �slumming,� I�m eating lunch with my friends.� He said
�Well, you should have more appropriate friends then.� Amena said
�Now look Amena, you come over here with your smart ass comments and bitchy attitude and expect us to take it? I don�t think so. Why don�t you go back to where you came from?� Daveigh asked
�Oh how sweet, Daveigh thinks that she can defend you.� Amena laughed
Kellen and Effie shared a worried look. They could see that Daveigh was getting angry and once she was angry there was no way to stop her.
�Dave, why don�t you just let it go?� Effie asked
�No Eff, I won�t let it go . I�m sick of you thinking that you own everything around here. You are not the Queen Bee so we do not have to answer to your every beck and call. You need to take a step back into reality and realize that your say isn�t the be all and end all. This is a democracy, not a dictatorship. So back off.� Daveigh said
Everyone stood in shock. No one had ever had the nerve to tell Amena off and finally someone had. No one knew what to do. Everyone just stared at the two girls, waiting to see who would make the next move.
�How dare you?! You do you think you are?� Amena exclaimed
�Who do you think you are?� Daveigh retorted
�I am Amena Grant, that�s who.� Amena said
�Well Amena, remember what happened to Regina George in �Mean Girls,� she blew up to the size of a bus, lost her hot boyfriend and got hit by a bus.� Daveigh said
�Oh please, that was just a movie.� Amena said
�Well, you have been looking a little heavier.� Daveigh said
�And I�m breaking up with you.� Stevie said
�So there goes your hot boyfriend. I�d be careful when I go outside if I were you.� Daveigh said
�I can�t believe this.� Amena said
�Well believe it.� Daveigh said
Amena screamed a blood curdling scream and stormed off. Caitlin and Alyssa, not knowing what to do, ran off and followed her. Effie and Kellen squealed in excitement.
�Dave, that was amazing!� Kellen exclaimed
�Thanks. I don�t know what came over me. But it felt good.� Daveigh said
�It was really fun to watch you tell Amena off.� Effie said
�A little backup would have been nice you know.� Daveigh said
�Dave, we�re sidekicks. Our main job is to stand here and look menacing.� Effie said
�Which we did.� Kellen added
�And besides, you said everything we would have said anyway so what was there for us to say?� Effie asked
�Remember, you�re the leader. You say everything. The most we do is say �yeah� in the background.� Kellen said
�Wait, when did I become the leader?� Daveigh asked
�When you stood up to Amena.� Kellen replied
�Yeah.� Effie agreed
�Oh.� Daveigh said
�Dave, can I talk to you for a second?� Stevie asked
�Sure. Let�s go outside.� She said
They walked outside together and sat on a bench. Daveigh turned to Stevie.
�What�s up?� she asked
�You were great with Amena.� He said
�Oh, that was nothing. Someone had to do it sometime.� She said
�But still, it was really bold of you.� He said
�Well, I was sick of her kicking me and my friends around.� She said
�Me included?� he asked
�You included.� She replied
�Hey Dave, can I ask you something?� he wondered
�Okay.� She replied
�Would you like to go out with me Friday night?� he asked
�As in, on a date?� she asked
�Yeah.� He replied
�Okay.� She said smiling.
�Okay.� He replied.
