Dawn stared out into the dark night. The stars twinkled above gently. It had been exactly one year. On year since AJ died. The year had been cruel and hard.
Dawn sighed and looked at their little daughter lying asleep in her bed. Dawn felt hopeless and empty without AJ.
Closing her eyes, Dawn tried to block out the accident, but she failed. She took out her notebook and began to write.
I first saw you and I knew,
that I had fallen in love with you.
We married off after a year,
in your eyes was a joyous tear.
We soon gave birth to a beautiful girl,
so tiny and delicate, like a white pearl.
Then one night you went to the store,
you were only supposed to be gone an hour, no more.
There was a knock at the door, and I opened it expecting to see you,
when the news hit me, away my breath flew.
You were in an accident on the way home to me,
your beautiful face never again will I see.
In sobbing tears I fell to the floor,
as the gentle click of the closing door.
I remember all the times we had,
it didn't matter if they were good or bad.
I first saw you and I knew,
that I had fallen in love with you.
Dawn shut her notebook with a sigh. The times were so hard she just wanted it all to end.
The next morning, his mother came to pick up Jen. She gave Dawn an understanding hug then left.
Dawn took a deep breath once she was alone. She had some things to do.
She sat and began to write. After she finished, she went to her room.

Denise walked in and called out for Dawn. She saw a note on the table and read it.
Denise, please forgive me. I'm sorry it all had to end this way, but I can't deal with the pain any longer. Losing AJ has killed me. As for Jen, please take care of her and let her know that her mommy loved her very much...
Denise dropped the letter and walked to Dawns room and she saw Dawn lying there. She covered her mouth and began to cry...

Jennifer listened to her mom Denise tell the story about her birth mom and dad. Then leaving by herself, she read from the letter her mom had written her.
Her mom asking for love and forgiveness. Jen did love her mom and she forgave her also. She knew that her mother had loved her, but it had been very hard for her.
She opened the trunk Denise had given her. The trunk had her fathers cd's and pictures and magazines of him and his band. There were pictures of him and her mother on their wedding day and other occasions. Then, there was her mothers diary. Jen treasured the items very much. They were her key to her family.
She looked out the window and hoped her mother and dad were watching her.
