Dream Come True

I wrote this snippet one night after hearing the song "The Way You Look Tonight" by Tony Bennett. There will a longer story to come that explains the history of the characters

Some day, when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight

It was the night of my senior prom. My boyfriend Aaron and I danced together slowly. I loved Tony Bennett. That song was like magic. Everytime I heard it, I fell into some sort of trance; it was so romantic. The mood was so perfect. The lights were dim and for once it was quiet. Everyone was just enjoying the moment. I sighed as I listened to Tony and now Aaron serenade me.

"Oh but you're lovely...with your smile so warm...and your cheek so soft..."

He reached out and stroked my cheek lovingly.

"There is nothing for me but to love you...just the way you look tonight."

I was so enjoying the music. The feeling of Aaron's body against mine, his breath warm against my neck as I laid my head on his shoulder.

"Aaron..." I started but he stopped me
"Shhh...just listen." he told me

With each word your tenderness grows
Tearing my fears apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose

As if on cue I giggled quietly as Aaron suddenly spun me around. He kissed the tip of my nose.

Touches my foolish heart.

I felt his hand rest at the small of my back and I smiled at him. He smiled back and sang:

"Lovely, never never change...keep that breathless charm...won't you please arrange it cause I love you...just the way you look tonight."

I laughed and sang to him:

"Just the way you look tonight..."

The song ended and seemed to have broken the trance we were all in. I took Aaron's hand and led him outside to the more secluded area. We sat at a nearby table and just smiled at each wordelessly. Neither of us had to speak, the emotion spoke for itself.

"I love you Sharissa." he said quietly

"I love you too Aaron." I whispered, not wanting anyone to hear our secret.

"Finding you again was the best thing that ever happened to me." he said

"Me too. The past eight months have been so special for me." I said

"Baby, this is just the beginning. We have the rest of our lives together." he said

"But how do you know that your mother won't try to tear us apart again?" I asked worriedly

"She won't Shari. I've told you a million times, you're never going to lose me again...ever." he said firmly

"I'm just scared the magic will end." I replied

"It won't. But let's enjoy the night before it's just a memory." he said, leaning in to kiss me.

And it is a memory. A beautiful memory. Everytime I hear that song I think of that night when Aaron vowed the magic would never end. And it hasn't. Ten years later we're still as in love as we were as teenagers. The recent birth of our daughter Lauren has only made the magic greater and the love stronger. Just the way it was that night.
