Nick sighed as he listened to the words from Ushers new hit song. He angrily fought back tears that were threatening. He didn't want to cry for her no matter how much it hurt him. He just couldn't fall into the weakness of it all

He had been with Hedei for over a year and things had seemingly been great, until that month. For the last month things had been strange with Hedei she hadn't seemed like herself.

He knew he had to talk to her about his feelings, he needed to let her know how he thought.

He walked over to her.

"Hedei, I think its time for us to have a talk."

She didn't look into his eyes, something she hadn't been doing for so long, and once again, it broke his heart.

Hedei heard Ushers sweet voice sing his heart felt song. Tears pricked behind her eyes. The words were so true, she understood everything that was being sung about. She figured Nick knew what was going on and she couldn't look him in the face. It hurt too much.

Nick watched her, he wished things were different but he understood that they weren't. How he longed to change everything between them.

He wasn't happy anymore, so much was going on in his life, he just needed to get things said and done and end this. He took a deep breath and faced her.

Nick swayed gentle in his girlfriends arms. Tish was beautiful and kind. She cared so much about him and he did for her. Tish loved the song Burn by Usher and he did not have the heart to tell her how much he hated it. So instead, he sucked it up and whenever the song played, he willingly danced with his girlfriend.

Nick glanced up and he met a pair of soft brown eyes from across the room. He realized that the eyes he was looking into were those of his ex, Hedei. She was standing with some other tall blond. Nick guessed that that was the guy she cheated on him with.

"Nick? Are you ok? You look upset." Tish said her voice soft and quite.

"Huh? Oh yeah just bad memories." He smiled at her.

She smiled back and they continued to sway in each others arms.

Nick looked up once again and saw Hedei. Why why why did he have to see her at the moment that this song was playing. He wondered irritated. It just wasn't fair.

"Nick, really you could at least pay attention when I am talking!" Tish said annoyed.

Nick sighed and faced her.

"Listen Tish, I told you all about my ex but what I didn't tell you was that this song was playing when we broke up and not to bring you down but I hate this song and to make things worse, Hedei is standing over there across the room with the guy she cheated on me with ok so im sorry if im a little out of it but this isn't exactly the best moment for me." Nick said huffing.

He closed his eyes unable to look at the hurt in Tishs eyes.

Tish pulled back and stared at him for a minute and stared at him.

"Nick, please don't think that I am a bitch or anything but I think you are still in love with Hedei. I'm gonna go home, I love you Nick but how can I be with you if you won't be devoted? If things change Nick and you think you can handle a relationship, call me." Tish said then pulled back and walked away with tears burning her eyes.

Hedei looked across the dance floor she saw that girl walk away from Nick, she knew the pain he was in. Slowly she moved across the dance floor and tapped his shoulder.

"May I have this dance Nick?" She asked soflty unsure.

Nick looked at her in disgust, How dare she have the nerve to ask him to dance after what she had done. He turned and walked away from her leaving her on the dance floor.

Hedei sighed and watched him leave.

Slowly Nick walked along the beach which was desserted since it was so late at night. He glanced up at the stars that blinked against the black sky. He sighed and sat on the sand. He couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Why was it he the one who always got stuck with people who wouldn't love him for him?

"Life stinks." He shouted and threw a rock into the waves.

"Its not all that bad." A female voice hit his ear.

He turned and looked at the short red head.

"Well, if this is what lifes has to offer, the sometimes I wish I weren't around to see how great it is."

Nick slowly turned and walked away.

He just gave up.

Five years later Nick stood alone on the beach. Some where near by a group of teens were listening to Usher's song Burn. He hadn't heard it for so long. He looked at the teens who were laughing.

"Do you remember when our older sibling liked this song?" One pretty girl asked her friends.

What I remember is how much I hated it. Nick sighed. Looking down the beach he groaned after five years how was it that this song played and he had to see her again? He watched Hedei who was running after a little girl. The same blond he had seen her with so long ago stood back watching and laughing.

Nick was still alone and with out love in his life. He was bitter towards her that she had found happiness.

He wondered after how for so long was he still able to love her. He narrowed his eyes and turned down walking off along the shore line.

"Nick is that you?"

Nick turned towards the voice his heart skipping a beat.

"Tish?"

"It's me Nick." She said with a smile.

Nick walked to her and stood looking down at her.

"You ready to try and build another relationship?" She asked unsure if Nick could be over Hedei or even want to try and have her back in his life.

Nick looked over his shoulder and realized that no matter what, Hedei was out of his life and nothing was going to change that. He had to let her go, let it burn. He turned to Tish.

"You know what? I think I am, I am ready to move on." He answered her.

Smiling she took his hand and together they walked down the beach ready for their new life together.

Nick was finally starting to feel happy with himself and his life. He had missed out in so much because he had been so blind. Happiness had been in front of him for a long time but he was too dumb to realize that. But now he wasn't and this time he wasn't going to mess up.

"I'm ready Tish, let's go."

Tish slowly took his hand and knew that even though it had been hard waiting so long, in the end it would be worth it, and it was.

*10 Years later*

Nick looked at his 5 year old daughter.

"Hey Kimmy, listen to this song that use to play when I was younger, this is the song that played when I fell in love with your mother."

Kimmy smiled at her dad and took his hand.

Nick smiled and put his arm around Tish. They walked down the street and he saw a figure of Hedei. Hedei who had died the year before.

Hedei offered him a smile.

Nick returned it and together, he walked down the sidewalk with his family and she vanished.

Now at peace, Hedei no longer haunted him.
