| France: National Assembly Military: Army Max: 750,000 Standing Army at 1791: Infantry: 235,000 Quality ---------------8/10 Cavalry: 20,000 Quality---------------8/10 Cannon: 300 Cannons of Various Caliber 10/10 Quality Overall: 8/10 Reasons: At this time, most of the French army is made up of either volunteers or conscripts, neither of which has had much training. However, French officers, particularly the young officers of the Revolution are very good and make their men do things they thought they could never do, such as win. French artillery also played an important role in battles, especially under Napoleon. The French Artillery was arguably the best in Europe at the time. Navy: 7/10 Reasons: The Revolution is scaring away many of the veteran sailors. Those that do remain are of lower caliber and conscripts must be used to fill the depleted ranks. The ships themselves however are on par with their British counterparts and in 1vs1 battles between a French and British ship, either side could win. Whereas if a British fleet and French fleet met, the result would be a British route of the French. Size: 44 Ships-of-the-line Economy: 8/10 |
