As a 5th and 8th grade American History teacher, I feel it is important for America as a whole to educate our children about our history.  It is not just America's story, but it is their story, their heritage.  As Americans, we have a lot to be proud of.  We need to share this pride with our children....GB/PoP

The American Civil War
The war profoundly changed the people that went through it, and the changes remain very much with us today.
It's conclusion established the supremacy and authority of the Federal government over the individual states, ended the institution of slavery, and stimulated the industrial growth and prosperity of the entire country. The cast of characters, the violent clash of opposing beliefs, and the huge stakes involved in the outcome make the WFSI a drama which is hard to ignore for anyone interested in our history...Thanks Tim...GB/PoP

Jackson Light Artillery History
Jackson Light Artillery was formed in February, 1862, with men from Jackson County, MO. Many of its members had served in the Missouri State Guard. The Unit moved east of the Mississippi River with 70 effectives and fought at Corinth and Hatchie Bridge. Later they were assigned to Green's Brigade, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. They participated in the long and difficult Vicksburg siege and were captured on July 4, 1863. After being exchanged, the Battery never returned to full strength but served in the district of the Gulf and at times were united with the Saint Louis, MO, artillery in H.C. Semple's battalion. The Battery was disbanded during the spring of 1865. They were commanded By Captains William Lucas and Schuyler Lowe. The memory of this unite still lives! Click HERE
Thanks for keeping The Jackson Artillery alive folks!...GB/PoP
