Winter Social:
A lot was accomplished at our Winter Social in Sioux Falls on February 16. Please read the minutes to see what was decided. A lot of planning goes into the club activities. Membership involvement is welcome not only at the participation level but also at the planning and implementation level as well. To put it bluntly - Appaloosa promotion needs everyone's help!!

The SD Horse Fair is March 29 and 30
Sue Kulp is in charge of the Appaloosa booth but she also has duties with the Horse Fair. She would appreciate help with the booth. A schedule will be set up for all interested. On a personal note, this is a wonderful to help promote the Appaloosa. Only one person can't do it all so if you are going to the Horse Fair, why not help out?

Horse Raffle:
This is a great way to raise money! A person buys one ticket and they have a chance of winning an Appaloosa foal donated by Sue & Pete Kulp out of DB's Post Shannon, a breeding to DB's Post Shannon, a breeding to Mighty Oakie, a matted and framed print by Sharon Sharpe, a hay bag, a rope bag, a set of 3 horse Christmas ornaments, a western picture frame, plus whatever else gets donated. Items will be added up until the drawing at the Prairie Classic on June 16. Cost is only $1 a ticket so get out there and sell, sell, sell. When you sell the two booklets enclosed, contact Sue or Stephanie for more tickets. We are going to put the tickets on the club web site so you can print off all the tickets you need! On a serious note, we need to raise money to help defray the cost of the move to the Brookings MultiPlex. If you don't like selling raffle tickets - just send us $50.00! (That is a joke but it is a great suggestion!!) If the person doesn't want the foal or the breedings, please indicate that on the ticket. The first ticket drawn, if the person is present, will get to chose whatever they want. It will help to know for those not present if they want the foal or the breedings. Don't forget, we have more tickets available, so let us know if you need more!

6th Annual Prairie Classic Update:
The 6th Annula Prairie Classic will be held at the Brookings MultiPlex on June 15-16. As you know, we can't have it in Huron so we have moved it to Brookings. There are a lot of good points in favor of the MultiPlex. It is right off Interstate 29. Lots of parking. Nice stalls. The indoor arena is 100 x 150. Lots of lights! Indoor wash rack. We will be the first show in the facility and I have a feeling this will be educational for everyone!
We figure it will cost approximately $3,000 more to have our show in the MultiPlex. Pete and Sue Kulp have donated $500 to defray the cost. They have also donated a foal from DB's Post Shannon as well as a breeding to him. Sue organized the raffle to help raise more money. We will be accepting items for the raffle. If you want to donate something, let Sue know. Last year Terri McCarty contacted several businesses in her area for sponsorships to the show. Anyone can contact their feed dealer or local business to see if they sponsor classes at area shows. We can add their names to the show bill and we announce their name repeatedly during the show. If you can get the sponsorships before Horse Fair, that is also included in the breed booth. If you don't feel comfortable asking but think you know someone who would contribute if asked, contact one of the Board of Directors. We need all the sponsorships we can get for this show!

Show Help:
It is never too early to start planning workers for the show. Pete, Sue, and Melissa Kulp manned the office last year (and did an excellent job!). We need someone who will sit in the office during the show. Several of us set up and are available when we are not showing, so there are plenty of helpers, but we need someone to volunteer to be there on a regular basis. (If you just want to volunteer for one day, any help would be greatly appreciated!) The alternative is to hire someone, and that costs money. If you know someone who likes horses but doesn't show, we train on the job! We had a wonderful lady in Huron who didn't even own horses who sat in the office for us for two years. She enjoyed the people, had a great time, and did an excellent job. Our ring steward was a non-pro from another breed who donated her time to ring steward both days. She will also need to be replaced. This move involves more than just the location. We need to re-establish all the show workers. I don't know anyone in Brookings. So we really need your help.

Finally, sell, sell, sell those raffle tickets. There are a variety of prizes. When you sell these, please contact Sue Kulp for more. They will be selling the raffle tickets at the Horse Fair booth. Again, the drawing is Sunday, June 16. You do not need to be present to win. We just need to know if the purchaser of the raffle ticket is interested in the foal or the breedings.
