This musical is a wonderful telling of the first 6 chapters of the book of genesis beginning with the creation, dealing with the expulsion from Eden, life in the wastleland and thru the Noah story, ending with the landing of the ark and the new beginning it represents.
What makes this musical so powerful is its soulful lyrics and the brave performances available on the cast album. Darius deHaas inparticular has an incredible voice which he fills with both rage and hope in "Lost in the Wilderness" a track that deserves many trips to the replay button on your CD player.
Stephen Schwartz for some reason writes incredible material when he is given the Bible as inspiration. His music is honest and idealistic while also being enjoyable and pointed. He doens't image that the world is perfect. But you can hear someone who wants it to be so.
