Rainbow’s End

I see it in my dreams
I follow the rainbow with my eyes
The rain is almost over
And the sun has begun to shine

It arcs over the land
Showing the colors all
Every color known
Can be created there

And at the end
The legends say
There is a pot of gold
But what is gold?

Does it have to be material?
Could it not be emotional?
To one person perhaps
The pot of gold is not metal

To one person
Gold is the softness of a kiss
The whisper of a name
The warmth of an embrace
The beating of a heart

To one person
That gold is as elusive
As the end of the rainbow
Always visible
But never attainable

To one person
The colors represent
Something different
For shrouded in their beauty
Is a profound sadness

To one person
The colors have meaning
Blue is the water of their tears
Red is the bleeding of their heart
As they search for the end

To one person
The pot of gold
At the rainbow’s end
Is nothing more than
Someone to share the sights with
