Freedom

All my life
I have been trapped
My soul has been chained
Tied down by these weights
Of self-imposed limitation

At first I could not see
That I was not able to soar
For I was too intent upon
What I thought I needed
To realize all that I had

I am free!
My chains have been cast off
There was strength enough
In the wings of my soul
To snap them like mere paper

I feel my spirit begin to soar
On the wings of my soul
Higher
Faster
The wind brings tears to my eyes

I am free!
I am smiling through those tears
For I am truly happy
My soul soars in the heavens
Where it belongs

I dry the tears
But the smile remains
You cannot tarnish
The smile of the spirit
The truly happy

Those who are free
Smile with our hearts
Those who are free
Serve as a beacon
With the light radiated from that smile

After all these years I am finally free
Do you see my smile?
The beacon of hope to those still chained
The hood has been lifted
The light calls to those who need to see
Break your chains and soar with me

I am finally free!
