Linda Cohn is a plague on the
otherwise outstanding franchise known as SportsCenter. She
gets things wrong a lot (recently said that Ken Dorsey won a Heisman
Trophy playing for Miami - want to try again there Linda?), is probably
a Yankees fan, and fails miserably when she tries to create catch
phrases. All the GOOD anchors had GOOD catch phrases:
Olbermann: "A good craftsman doesn't blame his tools", "He puts the
biscuit in the basket!"
Eisen: "He busts out the whuppin stick", "Those who are tardy get
no fruit cup"
Kilborn: "The fundamentallly sound Chuck Knoblauch", "JUMANJI", "Good
wood, solid spank", etc.
Patrick: "En Fuego", "The Whiiiiiiffffff", "Along with my tag team
partner..."
Cohn: ?????
She tries to make up stuff, but it's just terrible. She makes
things up based on whatever's popular. Like a couple of years
ago, a baseball player struck out and she said something to the effect
of him being "voted off the island." WTF??? Terrible.
A recent topic was Lebron James, who she managed to sneak into every
highlight no matter what the sport. Other poor attempts:
"The baby is due, and Dr. Griffey delivers"
"He's so clutch and he doesn't even know it"
"He's been lifting" (when a guy hits a homer)
"He's no Beanie Baby" (didn't make any sense whatsoever)
I could go on, but the bottom line is that she's just awful. And
it's not because I'm against women as sports anchors. Chris
McKendry, Robin Roberts, and Suzy Kolber do a fine job. I don't
think I'd mind Linda Cohn if she'd get the facts right more often, get
off the nuts of (insert hot topic of the week here), and realize that
her catch phrases royally suck.
What's even worse is when she's on with Stuart Scott (I have plenty of
complaints about him as well). When they're on I don't even
bother watching. Stuart tries too hard to prove that he's black
and from the mean streets, and is quite high on himself. Linda
tries to act like Stu and tries to sound black as well. All of
this means I find something else to watch.
For making my morning SportsCenter less enjoyable for so many years...
BOOOOOO Linda Cohn!
