Welcome to the World of Fantasy Fiction!

Have you ever found yourself scrambling to hide the books you're reading when one of your friends comes by your room? I'm not just talking about romance novels here... Well, even so, do Laurell K. Hamilton's romance novels have just the right combination of lemony scenes and that fantasy fairy world backdrop to keep you out of your own? For hours on end? Did the drama in Terry Goodkind's Temple of the Winds propel you into a fast and passionate read that landed you smack in the middle of the Naked Empire?

Let me guess: Suddenly, what felt like a fun and entertaining read to you turned into a brilliantly intuitive analysis of themes that affect our society today? I mean, at first, maybe it was just fun, but then you really started thinking about what the author was trying to say in her book, or in his series...

But, you wouldn't dare tell your friends about it; and just Forget about your teachers... I know it's tempting, but could you really bring up Goodkind's Sword of Truth series in your Shakespeare class? Who would understand that you really enjoy, (and perhaps more surprisingly) find profound messages and symbolism in the fantasy fiction you are reading? Does Frank Herbert's Dune still speak volumes to you? Who would understand your obsession?

... I do!

I created la Fantasia as a resource for everyone out there who has just come into the world of fantasy fiction and is finding themselves drooling over a series, waiting for their next fix, which probably won't come for another year! *Hurry, Terry! Hurry!* Or... if you've been curious for a while, and want to break academia's long held taboo on fantasy fiction (cause apparently, it's not an honorable thing to be caught reading it!)as an intellectual cultural product, then just check out my reading list below.

Besides all that, I hope you enjoy the site, and please feel free to email me suggestions if you have them:
