Rabbit Adoption Contract

I/We _________________________________________________________ understand the responsibility
                           { Adopter(s) Name(s) Here}

involved in owning a rabbit.  I/We also understand that to the best of Poohkas Rabbit Rescues knowledge, this rabbit is in good health or they would have other wise disclosed.  I/We also acknowledge that upon adoption, the rabbits profile sheet and/or medical history will be sent out to you.  I/We understand that the question form I/we filled out was to be and was filled out honestly.  I/We also understand that as part of the adoption, I/we need to keep the rescue up to date on any address and/or phone number changes.  I/We hereby agree to the following terms of adoption:

  1.  No member or any other person to come in contact with the rabbit has been charged or accused of cruelty to animals, nor was there believed to be at any time, whether accused or not.

  2.  In assuming responsibility for the above rabbit, I/we agree to never physically abuse him/her, nor will anyone else do so.

  3.  I/We will always supervise any children when they are playing or caring for this rabbit, that I/we will be the primary caregiver of the rabbit and I/we will not have any other animal playing with this rabbit unless advice has been provided by the rescue and I/we are there to intervene if needed.

  4.  I/We will make sure that this rabbit as well as any other rabbits in the home or to come in contact with it, are spayed and/or neutered before they are introduced and that this will only be done after informing the rabbit rescue so that they may provide me/us with information on this procedure.  I/We understand how important it is to have a rabbit spayed and/or neutered.  I/We also understand that by not doing so, there may be some health risks as well as unwanted behavior.  I/We understand that it is my/our responsibility to have this rabbit spayed/neutered and that if I/we dont do so, I/we are to keep males and females separate at all times.  I/We also understand that a neutered male may still impregnate a female up to 6 weeks after this procedure so it is best to keep them apart during this time.

  5.  This rabbit will never be used for breeding, fighting, fur, meat, as a class pet, or experimentation.

  6.  I/We agree to provide the rabbit with a safe place to play indoors & only be let outdoors if in a safe, enclosed area where no other animals can get it, can be easily brought back in & I/we will be able to watch it at all times, the rabbit will be let loose often and as much as possible if in a cage, will never be left where it may endanger itself or others (people, animal, things) may, & all animal control laws will be obeyed.

  7.  I/We agree not to let the rabbit run freely in the yard, but will use a harness or a special made run in which I/We can keep an eye on the rabbit & that I/we will provide protection from predators, as well as monitor any outdoor temperatures closely while providing, food, water & shelter from the elements during its free time outdoors and that any outdoor time is just fun time for both of us as this rabbit is meant as a house rabbit & that any damages done by this rabbit is my/our responsibility.

  8.  I/We agree to provide this rabbit with a balanced diet with proper shelter, veterinary care, daily fresh food (pellets, vegetables, & unlimited supply of hay), water & humane treatment at all times.

  9.  I/We understand that we have 7 days to have an independent vet check done in order to receive a full refund to return and the supplies that came with the rabbit must be returned at the same time as the rabbit, providing the rabbit was not taken in for a check up by the rescue prior to adoption.  If something is found wrong with this rabbit, I/we will bring a letter from the vet on their company letterhead stating what is wrong.  I/We understand that any health problems would have been disclosed at the interview & on a sheet of paper at time of adoption & any that should occur later on, as health problems can occur with anyanimal, are your responsibility and the rescue was unaware of such a problem.

10.  I/We agree that the entire family and/or household wants this rabbit and it will be treated as part of the family and that I/we are adopting this rabbit for me/us and not anyone outside of the home & that it will stay with me/us unless returned to the rescue.

11.  I/We agree not to sell, trade, abandon, transfer ownership, or dispose of this rabbit in any way, but to notify Poohkas Rabbit Rescue if I/we must relinquish custody of the rabbit.  This includes to family members.  If any problems do occur or if I/we wish to give this rabbit to another family member, I/we will call the said rescue to discuss the matter.

12.  I/We will always consult with a rabbit vet & the said rescue if problems with this rabbit occur.  If the problems are still un-resolvable, then I/we will give the rescue 2 weeks notice to find a free cage for it or an option is to provide one myself still with notice.

13.  I/We are willing to allow a representative of Poohkas Rabbit Rescue examine the rabbit and its living conditions as well as surrender it to said representative for return to the organization if the conditions are found unsatisfactory.  I/We understand that this clause is put here for the safety of the rabbit and that good homes should not worry about it.

14.  If my/our family/household is going out of town, I/we understand that this rabbit is not an animal that can be left alone & I/we will find a responsible caregiver to watch my/our rabbit & that the rescue does have a list of people that I/we can contact if needed.  I/We understand that this is my/our cost, not the rescues.

15.  I/We understand that if I/we have any problems with the rabbit or one of my/our own, I/we may always contact the rescue for help with how to handle the situation.

16.  I/We understand that just letting this rabbit out will not be enough, the rabbit will need contact with me/us, my/our companionship.  I/We realize that by not doing so, the rabbit could easily become ill without my/our knowledge or become bored and get destructive.

17.  I/We understand that I/we will have to submit to a yearly home-check by a representative of the rescue and I/we are also asked to keep in touch with the rescue about the rabbit.I/We understand the above requirements and intend to follow them.
Please understand that these are for the protection of the rabbit as there are unfortunately some people out there that do not have the best intentions!  We reserve the right to deny adoptions!!
