~~~ Ricardo Julian's Nursery! ~~~
Otherwise known as RICKY :)
Ricky was born May 13, 2004.
He was my surprize baby!! :)
~~~RICKY'S BIRTH STORY~~~
Gestational Age: 36 wks AGPAR score: 4/7/7 (1,5,10 minutes)
Well Ricky beat all odds against him & arrived at 36 wks and 2 days.
He out-did his brother by 4 wks and his sister by 2 wks!
All this despite a difficult pregnancy which included
3 months of "all day sickness" the first trimester,
first trimester spotting and difficulty getting a heartbeat,
as well a week long stay in the hospital due to preterm labour
at 27 wks, where I had 2 shots of steroids for his lungs
and iv antibiotics to offset infection they thought I had.
Despite getting him to almost term, he had a horrendous delivery :(
I went in for my c-section (planned sooner than anticipated
due to labour already starting and I could not have natural labour).
They prepared me to be "knocked out" as due to my back condition
I was unable to have epidural.
Unfortunatly they had a hard time to put me to sleep and both
Ricky and myself had too much anesthesia and needed oxygen after birth.
I had the worst recovery initially, needing oxygen myself and I do not
recall anything of the first night and that is a first for me!
The next day I realized something was wrong, my baby was not in my
room and when I did see him he looked very weak and just "not right".
Long story short, as I found all this out WAY after the fact, Ricky
was born not breathing (he had a heartbeat but not breathing).
He needed to be "bagged" (resusitated, or helped to breath on his own).
Apparently they worked on him for a half hour, though he was breathing
on his own somewhere between 1 and 5 minutes as his agpar score shows.
He was on quite alot of oxygen initially but did jump back within the first
evening after birth. All this was unknown to me until my belated
post-delivery checkup when he was 6 months old!!!
It was then I also discovered Ricky's cord was wrapped around his
neck in a double knot!!! No wonder he had a "off look" and was
having alot of problems developmentally!!
At 6 months he still could not hold up his neck correctly (torticollis),
he was not sitting, not rolling either way, etc.
So my Ricky sure is my angel.... and I am so blessed to have him!
As I realize just how close we came to loosing him.....
My not-so-little monkey (Smile!) is a fighter though!
I am so greatfull to have him and I love my "cuddle bunny"
so very much.... Mommy loves you my sweet Ricky!! xox
