Ricky went for his 9 month check up today.
He grew 2 inches since 6 months, and
lost 6 ounces since LAST MONTH...
which was very surprizing!
He is now over the charts for height still and now at 90% for weight (over 100% for height). The doc says not to worry yet but will watch his weight on his 1st year check to make sure it does not continue to decline.
He is physically doing well, no current breathing problems, etc.
The only things to keep an eye out for was:
1. His spine is showing signs of possibly getting a curve due to his not sitting yet and always being "doubled over". So she wants me to bring it up to the Neuorsurgeon I see on March 4th and see what he says and he may give me a referral to a orthopedic surgeon to see what, if anything, needs to be done... praying for nothing!
2. His head circumference is a little on the big side. I inocently said to her oh so that is good. She says no it isn't. They prefer it to be on the same level in growth or lower or something like that, she said the neurosurgeon should look at that too and will likely want to pursue a MRI sooner than later, espeically with the inconclusive CT scan results.
So everything with Ricky is seeming to be due to lack of oxygen at birth. His "hearing" loss looks like it was, still is, due to a part of the brain that is likely not working or not well (reception ?? not sure of the term). As well his hypotonia (low tone) seems to be steming from the brain as well.
**MILESTONES FOR 9 MONTHS**
He started rolling from tummy to back on the weekend, though still needing a little help he can do it himself eventually, his hating his tummy is making him roll over LOL...
Now to just get him to sit....
***10 MONTH UPDATE****
March 2005
***NEUROSURGEON Appointment***
The neurosurgeon says that his head shape is good and is not concerned about any water in the brain, that the head is not that big. As for the CT scan results, he says that the Neurologist can continue to follow him for that and if the 18 month scan shows the same results he can be consulted again to determine what to do next.
So in that sence he "released" us from his care, however did say that I need to continue being followed by the neurologist and the genetics doctors to see why Ricky is so delayed and continue to monitor his hypotonia.
When he saw his back though he was concerned for possible SCOLIOSIS,
and he ordered a back xray which I will do in a week or so.
If it turns out to be scoliosis a MRI may be done to determine why.
I don't quite know the relation between a MRI and scoliosis, but
I want a MRI to find out more answers, so that would be good for me.
**SCOLIOSIS CONFIRMED**
Unfortunatly the xray showed there is a curve, though only minor at 10%. We will be followed by Orthopedics starting in June with follow up xray's to ensure his curve does not worsen, praying it does not!! Just one more diagnosis for my sweet little boy :(
**PHYSIO THERAPIST Appointment**
Well good news, he is almost sitting with assistance!!! Yipppeee.
And we found a new toy... a yoga ball!! Instead of "tummy time" I put him on this ball on his tummy and he LOVES IT!! He practices his tummy time and he is on the ball, he loves it! Though I do have to still do the tummy floor time, this is a great help... but the only trouble is he tires so easily and after 10 minutes maximum he is zonked out :( So I have to do this a few times a day to help his tummy muscles, back, legs, and neck muscles :)
I also found out he is only number 7 on the occupational therapy list, so he should be called in a month or so!! Yay!! Then he will be placed on the speach therapy list... geesh!! so many therapies :(
**10 MONTH MILESTONE UPDATE**
(March 24,2005)
Ricky can now sit with help, not pulling himself up yet, but can sit pretty well when we hold him or with tons of pillows or in his excersaucer! Hopefully before a year he will be sitting unassisted!!
Thats it for now, write again soon!! :)
