Ricky is doing amazingly!! He is now 3 1/2 years old (turning 4 in May!).
Time sure does fly by! :(
He is now in a small home daycare where the provider is actually a Occupational Therapist in training! So she works well with him to help him continue to make progress. He goes to the daycare 5 mornings a week.
On top of the daycare, Ricky attends a weekly one-on-one stimulation "class" with a educator at a local rehabilitation center. She focases on all of his issues (sensory, fine and gross motor development).
He also has regular weekly therapies. Physio and Occupational therapy are weekly, and speach is bi-weekly.
Ricky is doing GREAT in his speach, talking alot now (since January 2007, when he was 2.5 yrs old). He is still not understood alot, articulation, expression, receptive issues are all still present. At least he is talking!
Physio therapy, he is now working at jumping and running. Running he can do but balance is still an issue. Jumping he cannot do yet, but he is starting to toloerate being on his tiptoes for a short while. Upper body strength is also of concern as he is very weak in the back, shoulder, and hand muscles.
Occupational therapy is his most concentrated area due to his major sensory issues and severe hand weakness. Plus he still cannot dress himself and is still needed help with feeding. He is progressing, but this area is the area needing most concentration at the moment. Followed by physio then speach. Use to be the other way around!
Ricky is still a very happy little boy, he is just amazing! He still has his "chorea" movements, which may lead to a diagnosis of Tourettes syndrom later in childhood, but so far its just a wait and see thing.
Healthwise his back seems to be stable, no more curving, but his left foot is still sticking out alot despite the braces he wears 1-2 times a day. We see the orthopedic surgeon again in June for a follow up.
Kidney wise, its still stable, his annual check in February showed no change, so that is good.
His annual eye exam was good too, but his eyesight for distance is weak, he will likely need glasses in school. Shoudl be fun with his sensory issues!
Anyway that is all for now, will update sometime in the next several months for his 4 yr update!.
