NOVEMBER 2005
***MILESTONES***
Ricky got his walker and is able to walk around with it as long as I am right behind him and holding it with him... but its a start!!
***DOCTOR'S APPT'S, THERAPIES***
*recap for October*
October 31st, VCUG and u/s showed no reflux with his left kidney, further investegation needed.
November:
Neurologist refers me to a "nephrologist" who deals with the health of the kidneys.
Occuptional therapist: Ricky's fine motor delays and speach delays are going backwards since he is improving so much with gross motor skills, so more work is needed.
Nephrologist: Generally just confirms what found out on Oct. 31st but tells me that the degree of his "swollen kidney" is the 2nd highest (it goes from grade 1-5, from lowest to highest), his is a "Grade 4" hydropronosis (sp?!?). So its definetely something that needs to be looked into. So a nuclear test will be done Nov. 24th to see if there is any obstruction, if so surgery will be needed to remove it, if not then further testing is to be done to see why the kidney is is the way it is. Then she referred me to be followed by a Urologist... our 6th consult with a specialist!! :(
Urologist appt. is for January 12th (big sis Olivia's 4th bday!! LOL). Waiting lists stink :(
****18 MONTH CHECKUP*****
Nov. 18, 2005
Yet another eventfull appointment... what else is new!! Ricky is getting quite hefty... 30 pounds!! The rest of the appointment was discussing his possible seizures (he has been experiencing alot of quirky jerks/twitches/odd behaviour episodes) and so now we have a EEG to be done this Monday after his physio therapy appointment (Nov 21). **Also next week is his nuclear test for the kidney... next Thursday**. So more tests... plus ofcourse he may have another ear infection, going back next week as the doc saw fluid building up and said the right ear does not look good.. oh yay! :(
***Week of November 21st***
EEG, Physio Therapy update, and Nuclear Test
PHYSIO:
Basically no change :( She agreed the walker would help so I finally have one at home now. Hopefully in December he will have made some progress (still at a 10 month level physically in development).
EEG:
The test went ok, will only know the results in a week... He screamed but fell asleep so that is good, but wow all wires on his head... thought he'd be electricuted!! *ha ha*
Nuclear Test (for kidney issue):
This test was alot more evasive than they had prepared me for... on top of the IV that they had to put in (which I knew of) they also had to put a CATHETER in him again... wow I almost cancelled the test when i realized that as I almost passed out with them putting in the IV!! The actual test was not bad and he just slept through the hour long procedure.. which was like glorified xrays. I could not see anythign really so I dont know the results but again it will take at least a few weeks before I do know the results.
*Misc. News*
I have a recorder on loan this weekend for a few days to record Ricky's ongoing episodes.. from what I have researched I think they may be behaviorual related (such as tics), or a mix of possible seizures and behavioural tics... hopefully answers will come my way soon as its very concerning watching Ricky have these episodes where he just jerks and moves his arms and looks totally lost... its to the point where I cry every time I see it, which is daily (several times). Oh ya...that right ear that did not look good 2 weeks ago.. well yup it turned into a ear infection, both ears are infected actually, and so Ricky is on yet another round of antibiotics for that (3rd in as many months!). Not a good start to the winter season!
